I have seen some wearing a helmet with just sunglasses....and with shorts and tennis shoes.
(on other track websites that will not be named.......and there are a few, one in particular, who's videos are on You-tube, in which I find appalling)

Hat's off to Heymow Admin, who do a great job of not allowing these pictures on this site. It gives the wrong impression of what we do.

That is one good thing about this sport, SAFETY. You could have the coolest looking mower, but if you don't have the safety equipment, your not cool in my book. At my track, if you don't have an aproved helmet, neck brace, long sleeve shirt, chest protector, and leather boots, you don't race. Thats goes for the slowest class we have.

Pulling has different rules and regulations as far as required safety equipment compared to roundy round racing,

You will probably be seeing pics of me this summer without neck brace or gloves, but I will be using helmet and full firesuit...

Is there a reason pullers do not use neck braces?
I know they have to turn their head to hook..is that it?
I ask because I had a pretty bad neck injury in '92. I wasn't even driving, I was walking through the pits, wearing a helmet and carrying my neck brace. Some one left a jack handle down that I tripped over and I tripped and landed on my helmet. It really tweaked my neck good! Since then, my helmet does not go on until I am seated!
Bert stole my cookies!!
I think he used them to bribe Ed into something naughty?

Why do you find videos on YouTube appalling?  I rather enjoy them.  I also learned a lot from a serious wreck I had by watching it on Youtube...
I think I read your post wrong Flipper sorry...
I did laugh at the part about wearing sunglasses, tennis shoes and shorts..  I bet if you would have looked close enough you would have probably seen a beer in there too.

It's not that I don't think it's a good idea...I Do...

It's just that they are not "required" by the rules, so you probably won't see as strict of adherence to the recommendation they wear one. I 'm sure many already do.

Hopefully one of the guys with more experience than I can confirm this, but that's what I've seen (or not seen) in the rules in the clubs around here...

I know of some mower associations that dont mandate neck braces but the vids still get took off here dont see why the pulling has to be any different if we are strict on saftey i dont see why a pulling video would be allowed on here without all the proper saftey gear? not to make anyone mad or start and argument just expressing my opinion.

Instead of censorship, why can't you simply add a disclaimer comment?

'This video/picture may or may not be in compliance with certain organizations safety rules. The national sanctioning organizations do not condone using racing mowers with out the proper safety gear.'

Any video/picture you see, if a comment can be made, simply add some thing like the above if it doesn't meet with YOUR approval.

Just like Squidd said, different clubs, different rules, different insurance carriers.

It's a whole different ballgame...

Heck they only go 8-14 mph

Although I shouldn't have been so caviler on the safety equipment...gloves and long sleeves around farm equipment is always a good idea, but we'll have to see on the neck brace, full face helmets are not the norm in pulling..

Last year we had a young individual enter the track without a helmet just playing around and I tore him a new rear end exiting orifice.....bet he never does that again! I won't mention any names......

Think we might just have each racer lay on a backboard strapped down while they fill out the entry forms to show just how un-comfortable that is.... :bash:
