I think what Squidd was getting at was people do alot of differant stuff for many reasons and the best way to find out the answer to the question is ask the one that is doing it why they did it .

I happen to run my motor backwards on my MOWchine and i did it for a few differant reasons , the first of witch was ROOM , the other reson is it puts the carb facing forward to suck up as much as it wants !!!!! and with the size of my air cleaner it doesnt have any probablem getting AIR .

really all the snapper mowers have no room for a v-twin the other way round ??

i run my motor backwards in my chassis also  was easier to set up and the gas tank i have woudnt like hard accelleration cause the pickup is only at one end and when u hit it hard  and theeres only bout 1/4 tank in er starves the motor :(

heres a pic

When I put the Twin II (or that 19HP twin that I'm getting from the lawnmower racing guy  >:D) on the Toro, it's going on backwards. The carb and exhausts are going to be on the rear. Mostly so  I won't have to custom-fab an exhaust system & figure out how to make the carb clear the seat, but it looks a heck of allot better too. I just need to figure out what I'm going to do about the gas tank situation
