I built an engine test and break-in stand and it works really well. I used the front part of an craftsman tractor and built the legs and mounted it to the drive. here are a few pic's of it...more to come.

i was just thinking of something similar but, take a regular engine stand and build a plate to mount mower engines on and you would have one that you could flip the engine on its side or bottom. if it were twisted, you could flip straight up.
