**Kawasaki FL500V 17HP no start**
« on: June 05, 2009, 04:53:36 pm »
Hi All;
I have a Kawasaki FL500V that was running fine. I put it away as usual an now it won't start. Pulling a plug and grounding it while turning the engine over produces no spark. Plugs are like new, engine has low hrs. I can't think of anything I did to cause this condition.

Any and all suggestions appreciated

Thanks,

Lobo

A good place to start would be checking all the safety switches, Then all the wires in the harness, If still no spark then check the coil
If mowers are a habit then I need an intervention

Thank you for your reply!

I have checked the ignition switch, the parking brake safety, the fuses, the harness connections and still no spark. Is it possible for the coil(s) to go bad by just turning the engine off?

Any thoughts appreciated.

could have maybe rusted over during the winter months. take smoe sandpaper or some steel wool to the flywheel magnets and to the coil, Then try again. And make sure you have it grounded correctly. Let us know what happens

According to the manuals on that thing it says the best way to check an ignition module is with a known good module. What kind of mower is it in?

If I remember correctly, there is a module inside of each coil. The one kill wire is connected to both coils. Try pulling the shroud, pull the kill wire off of both coils, and try to start it. If it runs then, something is grounding out the kill circuit. If it's a stock mower, you probably have a bad switch somewhere.

That's true crazyman but if it's in a john deere depending how new it is it may also have an external ignition module.
