2  General / Coffee Shop / British 12 Hour Race This Weekend! on: August 03, 2016, 01:55:36 PM

If you think that ride on mowers can’t offer much of a spectacle, think again! Fast, fun and furious, lawn mower racing is motorsport at its most eccentric and the BLMRA’s flagship event, the world-renowned 12 Hour Race takes place on Saturday, 6th August.
The venue is once again Five Oaks, near Billingshurst in West Sussex RH14 9AE – just off the A29. Qualifying, which is open to the public, starts at 3.45pm, with the race commencing at 8pm.

We are also pleased to announce that we are being supported by Phoenix Motorcycle Training who, as one of the fastest growing training organisations in England, offer a tailored programme of instruction for all rider levels at centres across the south of England.
12 hours of intense racing!

As usual, the teams will line up in a traditional Le Mans grid formation with the drivers running to their machines at the start.
The teams of three drivers (male and female) compete throughout the night at speeds approaching 50 mph – and without any form of suspension other than a padded seat, this is no stroll in the park! The pace remains unrelenting for the full 12 hours and it’s not unknown for the first three mowers to be on the same lap when the chequered flag drops. This is a true test of human endurance and mechanical reliability.

As darkness descends, the race takes on a totally different atmosphere as the pit lane becomes a sea of light and the night is punctuated by mower headlamps streaking past.
Last year’s event saw a new distance record of 354 miles established, so the leading teams will be keen to raise the benchmark still further, although the weather will play a key role as ever.
All profits to charity

Once again, the £6 entry fee to the race (children and parking are free) raises money for good causes and once again our chosen charity is the local Ingfield Manor School for children with cerebral palsy.

There will be full trackside catering and race commentary throughout, or you can listen in on Radio Le Mow on 87.7 FM.
With the previous victorious team members back to defend their crown, old scores to settle and new faces on the block, the challenge is now on for the greatest event of the year.

The BLMRA 12 Hour Lawn Mower Race is GO!!!

THE Kennedy quartet from Rockhampton will be aiming to mow down the opposition in A-grade at the 2016 All Australian Ride-On Mower Racing Championships on May 21 and 22.

Leading the charge will be 16-year-old Caleb, who finished second in B-grade at last year's nationals and is hoping to go one better in the higher grade this time around.

The event is being staged for the second consecutive year by the Central Queensland Mower Racing Club at its race track at Yaamba (opposite the Royal Oak Hotel).

Caleb will be joined in the A-grade field by his dad and club president John, John's brother Warren and his son Jye. Warren's wife Wendy will also be in action, racing in D-grade.

John said there would be some fast and furious competition at the nationals, especially in the outlaw class where riders get their mowers revving at speeds of up to 90kmh.

Reigning national champion Mark Shipton from the Sunshine Coast will be out to retain his title against a class field from across Queensland and interstate.

"The outlaw class is the ultimate class," John said. "They ride fully modified mowers that can do anywhere up to 90kmh. They're pretty wild to watch.

"The class down is big block, which is basically 35hp mowers, and underneath that is A-grade down to D-grade, which is your standard 32hp ride-on racing mower."

John said mower racing was growing in popularity because it was relatively economical and it was being embraced by families across the country.

No Foolin! STA-BIL® Lawn Mower Racing Celebrates 24th Birthday On April 1.

Northbrook, IL (PRWEB) April 01, 2016

To mark it's 24th birthday, on April Fool's Day, the U.S. Lawn Mower Racing Association (USLMRA) has announced that the Carolina Speedway in Gastonia, North Carolina will host the 2016 STA-BIL® 360 Performance Finals, as America's most affordable motorsport continues to mow and grow across the country.

The STA-BIL 360° Performance Nationals will determine champions in 11 classes who race at speeds of up to 60 mph with all blades  removed. Racers compete for trophies, glory and bragging rights.

Racers from 20 states and regions are scheduled to compete including sod slingers from the Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Mason-Dixon, Michigan and Tennessee Lawn Racing Associations as well as from local lawn mower racing tracks across the country. Racers include The Ace of Blades, The Garden Gangster, Turfinator, and Sodzilla.

"We're 'mowtivated' to have Carolina Speedway host the crown jewel of our national racing series," said USLMRA President Bruce Kaufman, Mr. Mow It All. "The Carolina Speedway is building a new, purpose-built lawn mower racing track that is designed to handle the ever-increasing speeds of our mowers, while providing a safe, smooth, wide track. And that's no foolin'!"

STA-BIL® has been USLMRA Title Sponsor throughout the 24-year USLMRA history and has nurtured a culture unique in American motorsports, where community, camaraderie, fair play and family togetherness are played out at dirt tracks, fairgrounds, municipal properties and local establishments from coast to coast.

About the USLMRA
Founded on April 1, 1992, the USLMRA sanctions and presents organized lawn mower racing across America including the 18-race STA-BIL National Lawn Mower Racing Series and a network of 50 Local Chapters and Affiliated Clubs hosting more than 250 sanctioned races nationwide every year. STA-BIL lawn mower racers compete in ten classes with all cutting blades removed for trophies, points and bragging rights.

Founded in 2009, the USLMRA National Lawn Mower Racing Hall of Fame is a place of honor for Turf Titans who have turned a weekend chore into a competitive sport. The USLMRA National Lawn Mower Racing Hall of Fame & Museum of America is located at Miller Lawn and Power, 1299 Harding Highway East State Road 309, Marion, Ohio.
