If the engament springs are a lower rpm, then you dont have to worry about the clutch engage and disengaging when entering a corner

Jacks is a good place, but make sure you get the better gaskets, some companys make cheap gaskets that arent as good of quality then briggs

Check all the wires for cuts, tears, breaks. Make sure all the grounds are clean. Basically go over it all, if it looks bad fix it.

I have also heard soda blasting is safer too. Don't know anyone around me that has tried one yet, so I don't know how well they work.
Yea, baking soda is great for carbs and such

If you are pretty new to mower racing and the engines id stick with the 12hp(28). Opposed are good motors but their are a few tricks you gotta do to them if you want them to live and be strong

Not saying your wrong, but in the 12's I have taken apart and built their was no release mechanism on the cam. Is it part of the internals of the governor?

Unless its a newer 12, i think the older one have no compression release.
