Engine Help / Honda and Clone Engines / Re: Best GX390 Dual Valve Springs

Really, i should of not gave you that answer. I was just thinking of a good spring recommendation for a nice 390/420 average build. To give an accurate suggestion it depends on rpm, cam and valvetrain weight used. The 966 is a bit more harder on valvetrain and cost a litttle power if your not planning on running over .500 lift at the valve and trying to turn engine 8k+. With stainless 1.5" intake, .475 lift @ valve, roller rockers, and lightweight moly pushrods 7500 rpm is not a problem with a properly setup 965. Comp uses the Pacaloy material on their 965 and doesn't on the 966 and that is really why the 965 was my first answer in reference to to your question asking about "really good ones", i was thinking quality.

John, if u wanna catch their interest you gotta build a v-twin. no engine makes the great sound like a v-twin with a merged header, and can be done pretty cheap for just getting starting. pm me for some details.

Engine Help / Kohler Engines / Re: Kohler power

I will chime in and you can take it to the bank. End result will be more than you need and be reliable stump puller and still rev 8k plus. Stock bore je pistons with long rods, or Zach Kerbers rod and piston kit. Aluminum flywheel, stock mildly ported heads. Just clean up the casting flash. Two barrel carb and intake from a 30hp. A very mild flat tappet cam. A Hackman 275/256 is a stout midrange cam. Get his valve springs as well. Use Super cubs adjustable rocker kit. Have some standard small chevy push tubes made stock length with the correct size ends. Solid lifters with the end oiler hole in them. Vogel makes a real good midrange cam as well. The parts I listed will be 100 percent bolt together. No machine work needed except for fitment of piston to bore and port cleanup. Valve work if you want but it's not needed. That combo will make 40plus hp.
This is a joke right?
....and you left out one of, or prolly the top builder/supplier for the kohler and that would be Lakota. Racing.

with plate off, and looking at center of carb they are the first 2 horizontal channels when looking left to right from center. The restrictors are pretty deep in there. Ill try to get a pic.

Engine Help / Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Re: running a double barrel carb on a ohv single

Uhhh..ok, change to this 2 barrel carb and everyone that runs a singlebarrel carb will be trying to keep up. why didn't i think of that? ...oh yea, i did about 10 years ago and a built single barrel worked better. Yes, the increases airflow with proper jetting over a stock carb will increase performance but its not the ultimate option due to the jetting causing the fuel atomization to be very rich. Anyway, I keep mentioning about the jetting to dispel any myths of a big carb dumping too much fuel in the engine. Ok, thanks for listening

If you use a properly tuned carb from a larger engine you'll actually be too lean on a smaller engine. ,When you put on a larger carburetor you are increasing airflow and decreasing fuel signal at the booster due to a lower delta "p" at booster. In layman's terms you loose vacuum pulling on the jet.
