4  Race and Event Announcements / ARMA Races / FAIRNESS on: January 01, 2013, 11:09:20 PM
First, I want to say this is Melissa.  I've been reading some comments being made regarding the point system.  The question or issue is how to make it fair for ALL racers??  And the concern is "buying" a Regional Championship.  Well, sorry to say that "buying" a Regional Championship will always be the issue.  It will always be who has the better mower, who is more aggressive, and who can afford to travel across the country.  So, what is the best solution while taking into consideration how to best promote and support the organization.

ARMA has been consistantly running at least 20 races, if not more, per season.  So, why take only your top 5?  Why not make it 10?  ARMA runs many races all over and the main concern is mower count.  I can say from experience that it is tough to put on a good show with few mowers.  By raising the race limit, racers would be enticed to show up to more.  And on average most racers attend more than 5 per season anyway. This would also limit the ability of racers to pick and choose the races that they know that they will finish well at due to low mower count.

Also, I think that Heat points should be awarded.  Instead of a total of 400 points possible, make it say 600.  200 (dropping by placement in 25 point increments) points for Heat possible and 300 (dropping by placement in 50 point increments)for Feature possible.  There have been several racers who may do well in the Heat and have issues in the Feature and walk away for the day with minimal points.  The same goes for people that may had issues in the Heat and finished well in the Feature.  By taking 2 sets of points for the day, it would be a better judge of who did the best for the day.

These are solely my expressed opinions.  ARMA has always been an organization promoting "for the people" , which means all the people's opinions have the right to be heard and expressed.  I can only speak for myself in saying this, but the comment made about not helping the second place person win a championship is agreed upon as long as the first place person has earned that title.  By "earned", I mean consistantly winning over all other competitors.

Thank you.
