3  Engine Help / Kohler Engines / Kohler V-Twin discussion on: March 25, 2013, 09:31:23 AM
Thinking of exploring Kohler as a future build so, I've been searching and reading.  Haven't seen much discussion on what engines (blocks/heads) are most desireable.

If a guy was looking to build a strong running Kohler, what is the best block/engine to look for?

Are there certain heads to look for that are better?

This engine would be for an F/XT style machine, not sure if I'd go verticle or horizontal at this point.

Thanks
4  For Sale / Trannys / Axles / Wheels / 820, hubs, and parts on: October 27, 2012, 05:06:25 PM
Transaxle SOLD Selling my 820 with the full 017 kit in it only because I'm going to a kart axle setup.  This transaxle had new outer axle bearings, new input bevel gears, and new 25-25 gears 5 races ago.  Inner axle bearings were my own needle bearing setup.  All gears have been removed except for the 25-25 gears to reduce weight.  Brake shaft is cut off with plate over it.  It has gear oil in it too.  Axle in it is 34".  Shipping this will be a pain but, if someone is interested, I'm sure we can work something out. $100

This was last time I had it apart.

Used hubs SOLD I have 2 used EC hubs for 1" axle.  Worn inside the shaft hole a little because they were run on threaded part of the shaft.  $30 for the pair.

One NEW EC hub for 1" axle. $25

I have the old bevel gears and 25-25 gears out of the above 820.  They still look good.  $25 for the bevel set and $10 for the 25-25 set.

Diff out of the above 820 when it was NEW.  $15

Accept check or money order.
5  Engine Help / Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Vanguard cranks on: October 20, 2012, 10:23:30 AM
Found the part number for a large journal, vertical 30 crank on Heymow.  It is about 1.5" shorter than a 35 crank.  Does anybody know if there is longer version?

Also wondering if the balance will be OK if using the 30 crank with 38 forged pistons.  Weights are certainly smaller on the 30.  Anyone know?

I find it interesting that there is no machining whatsoever on the 30 counterweights.  Seems like it is already a compromise. (Fine for it's intended purpose as a grass cutter)

6  Engine Help / Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Single oil pump pan on: April 10, 2012, 05:15:54 PM
Is there any isue of running a pan from a pressure lube single on an engine that doesn't have the crank drilled?  Wondering if it will be too much restriction if oil is only going to main journal.  Too much oil pump drag?  So much drag that it could damage pump or shaft/cam?  Thanks
7  Engine Help / Briggs OHV & Vanguard / .620 pistons, bore=? on: March 29, 2012, 05:40:00 PM
Does anyone know of a .620 comp height piston with a bore in the range of 2.836 to 2.973? Wrist pin preferably .490.

Thanks
8  Engine Help / Briggs OHV & Vanguard / ARC rod bore on: January 28, 2012, 07:25:14 PM
On ARC Vanny twin rods, does anyone know what the I.D. of the large end is supposed to be?  Without bearings in it.
9  General / Coffee Shop / Bluefield Coal Show on: September 10, 2011, 06:53:24 PM
I was just wondering if anyone on here will be at the Coal show in Bluefield WV next week?  I'll be there Wed. and Thurs.  Company I work for makes controls for mining equipment.
10  Engine Help / Briggs OHV & Vanguard / How can I make my carb handle bumps? on: August 01, 2011, 08:02:01 PM
Started this season with a brand new 35 Vanny with cam, flat tops, wheel, mild port work, and EC 2 barrel.  I've been having carb issues all year.  Seems to be worse if the track is rough.  It will spit and sputter and evenually quit all together.  Seems like it is running out of gas.  Crank it and it fires a couple times and quits or won't fire at all.  Blow in the breather to prime it, and it starts.  Starting to think maybe it is vapor locking??  In the time playing around it cools down and runs???

Oh, and I have a floor mount tank behind the engine with the stock pump in the stock location.  Pulse is from intake too.

Any suggestions?

Anybody have any apps they found useful for racing?  Like lap timers and such.
12  Engine Help / Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Vanny Twin hi-torque starter question on: February 19, 2011, 08:36:59 PM
My block has a couple bosses casted into it for starter support.  The one towards the rear hits the hi-torque starter preventing it from sitting flat on the mounts.  Should I grind this one down?  If so, should it only be ground enough to let the starter sit flat so that it still provides support?  Thanks

13  Race and Event Announcements / Non-Affiliated Races / Western PA racers needed on: December 08, 2010, 08:22:18 PM
Anyone in the Western Pa area looking for a place to race, check out http://slipperyrockraceway.com/.  Nice 1/8 mile clay oval.  Most running there are single cylinders.  We need more twin "Outlaws".

They run a lot of karts and currently have 2 mower classes.

Thanks,
Chris
14  Engine Help / Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Vanguard twin sleeves centered? on: November 27, 2010, 08:25:27 PM
What's the best way to tell if the sleeves are centered?  They're cast in so you can't see the top at all.  Can see the bottom a little but not all.  Am I just looking for the bore to be centered in the chamfer around the bottom of the sleeve?  How much is too much when boring a 35 to 38?

Thanks
15  Engine Help / Briggs OHV & Vanguard / 38 CI Head CC on: October 03, 2010, 06:40:08 PM
Anyone know what the typical combustion chamber size is on a stock 38 CI Vanny head?
