1  Engine Help / Briggs OHV & Vanguard / 28 Briggs OHV Non-AVS help on: August 18, 2014, 12:01:28 PM
I have one that ran flawless for a year and a half.  Built a new motor to put on dads so we took it off and put it on the shelf a few weeks.  We robbed the carb off it to put on dad's new motor but other than that nothing has changed.  Put the motor on my brothers mower with a different carb and now the motor won't run for nothing, it runs but surges and spits and sputters.  Only thing different is the carb and my brothers mower has a stubby exhaust pipe (12"-14") compared to a full exhaust on dads.  Anybody have any ideas??  I am putting a full length exhaust on it tomorrow evening but still not sold on that being the problem.  Could it be a head gasket?  Doesn't smoke... HELP!

3  Engine Help / Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Bronze Governor bushing install? on: July 18, 2014, 08:30:09 PM
Any tricks to getting them in?  Got a 33 AVS from a buddy and I'm putting in my brothers G/P.  He had drove the old one out and I dressed it up on a lathe and tried to reinstall it with no luck before destroying it.  I put it in the freezer for a few days and it helped some but still failed, tips or tricks?  Put it in from the inside or outside?

Thanks, Tom

6  Engine Help / Briggs OHV & Vanguard / White tune Nikki Intek Twin carb help! on: June 12, 2014, 06:59:32 PM
Can you convert a white tube Nikki carb to a black tube by changing the tube and bowl?  Have a buddy wanting to do that since he can't find a good stock black tube carb.

Thanks, Tom

7  General / Coffee Shop / Seeing oil on dipstick problem on: April 19, 2014, 08:47:37 PM
Kind of funny I guess but in my vertical Vanny I have a REAL hard problem seeing the oil level on the dipstick, anyone else have a problem like this?  I run Royal Purple and it blends in so well I have overfilled it the last few times.  Thought about painting the tip of the dipstick white to help see it but wondering if anyone else has any better ideas.

8  Engine Help / Briggs OHV & Vanguard / 28 OHV Single high idle on: April 18, 2014, 08:30:11 AM
I have a 28 OHV on my brothers J/P that would have a high idle and a "whining" sound last season.  Engine was wore out and we knew that so we chalked it up to that as the cause but over the winter I rebuilt the engine and checked everything and it was good to go.  Fired it up the other day and it STILL has the "whining" noise and a very high idle that will not slow down when you adjust the carb.  Thought maybe it was an intake leak for the high idle but sprayed starting fluid along the intake and gaskets and it did not speed up so I ruled that out.  Anyone have any other ideas?  I didn't take the governor out and did not adjust it so could it need to be re-adjusted??  As far as the "whining" noise I am baffled on that, I don't see anything rubbing and the starter is disengaging so its not that.  HELP lol!

13  Mower Building / Setup Help / Tires / 2" back spacing on wheel on: February 11, 2014, 09:58:40 PM

14  General / Coffee Shop / Hegar front brakes on EC spindles on: February 11, 2014, 08:06:50 PM
What kind of key do you guys use on these?  I have a 3/16" key that fits the spindle but you can't slide the brake assembly over it, only thing I have found is an old Briggs single cylinder flywheel key that would work lol.  Also, how far through the rotor should the pins on the wheel hub go?  To get the wheel spaced out to where it won't rub the caliper the pins are about flush with the rotor and not all the way through it.

Thanks, Tom

15  Mower Building / Setup Help / Tires / Hoosier Tire mounted dimensions on: January 06, 2014, 09:01:14 PM
I'm curious if I am able to get set of Hoosiers for our local track and still maintain the 4" height per the rules.  Does anyone have a set of 15x8x8 rears mounted on 8x8 wheels and the fronts looking at 12x8x6 Hoosiers on a 6x8.25 wheel?  Looking to get a measurement on the diameters to see if it will work.
