In that case the carb is more than likely going to be way too big. Try a 36 or a 38 instead. 36 would probably be perfect

I have one in parts, the head design is actually better than briggs, however the crank and balancer I dont trust. For mild stockish build like you want to do I'm sure it will hold up fine. Never built one that's all the info I can give, good luck.

In attempt to attract more people to heymow I have decided to make a thread specifically for Carrier Performance. We are a lawn mower racing superstore. A one stop shop, carrierperformance.net . We already post all this stuff on social media but heymow is a greatly neglected now a days. It is a great source of info and needs to be used more. So this is our attempt to help the community and especially the new guys who have questions and need parts. Happy new year to all!

if i remember right the 38 cam (20hp vanguards have it also) has .01" more lobe lift .030 roughly valve lift.... but like i said its been a while. Depends on your rules but for pulling simple stuff like a steel flywheel, more compression, timing and a good carb should help

Are you wanting to put 30ci heads on a 30ci engine? Dont waste your time, you may turn 9000 rpm with 30ci heads but you wont be making power. Build 38ci heads with the far superior port design. For a 30ci 33-27.5 valves and a nice port job will do very well but for bigger engines and more hp we have 1.450-1.200 valve heads with a lot of port work will make a ton of hp and put an engine at a national level. Here are three options you can buy off the shelf.

The biggest air flow restriction on the 21-23hp engines is the intake itself. Even with mild 33-27.5 ported heads the intake ports will greatly out flow the intake. The only way to make decent power with stock parts is to extrusion hone the intake to get around 110 cfm. Cromwell race engines can do that for you. If you want big hp then you need to discard that and make a custom intake or dual intakes for dual carbs. Hope this helps.
