Post your Pics! / son's new stock mower
« on: July 20, 2008, 06:10:08 PM »
Here is a few pics of a mower i put together for my son to race stock class ARMA.
the paint was stained almost black from where the leaves had settled on it from several years of sitting. after spraying with cleaner and scrubbing several times and rubbing with polishing compound, this is what it looks like.

this is my son Brandon, we were gonna build a rear rider but the rules wont allow it so werswitched to the MTD made TaskforceII.

this nice red MTD had a little more body damage and a bad engine. i pulled the deck, driven pulley, idler and vari-drive pulley from this one and put on the other, also the front axle was junk on the other so another piece from this one was pulled. the front tires came with it in the swap.

the mower he is racing was pulled from the woods behind a mans house about 2 weeks ago. front axle was shot, deck was missing along with the gas tank, flywheel, solenoid, shift plate and all 4 tires were dryrot and would not hold air. all missing pieces were installed, carb was swapped to save time from rebuilding and save money. tires are ones that were laying around and hold air. battery came from another of my racers that is in the process of modification. After kill switch is installed it will be ready for all comers.

Racing Mower Builds / AYP Rally build (Sportsman class setup)
« on: March 04, 2008, 07:10:11 PM »
the mower started life as a Rally plus mower with a 16.5hp ohv and a hydrostatic drive.
i dont really have any pics of the mower in original form(computer crash) but here is a few pics of progress. Alot of things were done with out pics but i still have more to do so i may be able to fill in some blanks as i finish.

pic of frame before modification

the frame in front of the fourwheeler is another 4 wheeler that will be cut up as frame reinforcement.

pic of sheetmetal after sandblast, in building waiting on dry weather to prime.
front axle in prep. it is 3/16 wall- 1x2 tubing with 1/4 plate steel

finished axle with spindle roughly in place.
i have more pics and it jumps ahead abit because i had to get it mocked up for a car show.but i will post those pics later.
i dont think i thumbnailed them right. i will try again with next pics.

here is the front half of the mower on the frame.

this is with the body sitting in place and a borrowed rear wheel just see how it would look.
it just had the front axle clamped in place and the front trim on it. found out i needed a little more room on the front sidepanels, 38" of width don't quite clear.

Briggs Flathead / 31" piston?
« on: October 28, 2007, 10:19:09 AM »
i have 2 31"ohv pistons for my flathead. 1 is a standard 31", the other is a 31"avs. which piston is preferred to run in the 28" flathead? the avs piston, i know will need a special rod because of the cut of the piston where the wristpin is. the other is a straight swap to a 28 rod. any opinions are appreciated. i tried the search but could not find what i was looking for. i know i have seen posts on the 31 but cant find it right now.

can you flip an opposed from vertical to horizontal if it has the mounts for it? the engine is a 20hp opposed flathead with an oil filter. i think i have to change the oil pan because of the way the oil filter is mounted just not sure thanks, Robert
