Title: Help: Loud high pitch noise coming from transaxle.
Post by: Willis on June 23, 2014, 01:54:48 am

Hello everyone!

Before I ask, I'll tell you I have done a pulley swap on my tractor.

When decelerating, is it a normal thing for the transaxle to "Whine" loudly? I've got 80 90wt gear oil in the transaxle case and its full. Not sure on the year of the tractor, but its a NOMA, Kohler 20hp Vtwin, with a 6 speed Pearless transaxle.

I'm asking because I'm worried I might be hurting something, or worse, break something. It's not just a little noise, its actually quite ear piercingly loud.

Any help or tips and tricks are appreciated. Thank you everyone!

-Willis

Most transaxles and transmissions wine pretty loud. There only used to turning slow.

820's dont. We run bentonite and STP in ours.

If yours is ear piercing loud, I would venture a guess that is because something on the inside is trying to get out..or not getting lubrication, in which case it will eventually lock up or make its way out of the case. Perhaps even in glorious fashion, which I tend to rather enjoy watching.

What transaxle do you have?

Next to the brake rotor the plate says

   "930 036
    Peerless
    40132327"

Unless your ahead of Ed.   Then you hear lots of whining.  I'm unsure if it was the transaxle or the driver.

I was too far ahead to distinguish.
