Coffee Shop / Shipping Question
« on: May 18, 2012, 10:16:48 am »
When some of you sale items on here with a price but have no idea of what the shipping costs will be, how do you get a shipping quote for items to area codes? And where do you go to get a quote? I'm just curious because I'll have lots of parts to sale here shortly for a mower and will have the prices on here minus shipping. I already know I'll need to get a shipping quote for people. Trying to plan ahead so I'll know what to do.

Non-Affiliated Races / Live Oak Motorsports Mower Track
« on: May 14, 2012, 12:38:37 pm »
Just thought I'd let some of the other guys in south Georgia know about Live Oak Motorsports track located in Nicholls, Ga. At the time the track is non sanctioned but if you have a mower built to sanctioned rules you will fit in a class no problem. I'm by no way a partner in this track, only making others aware of it. The best I understand, here are the classes, Stock Single, Stock Twin Flathead, Stock V Twin, then there is an Unlimited Class as long as the engine was originally a mower engine. Met some great folks at this track Saturday night and had a fun night of racing my Super Mod. Unless something changes, the next race will be June 9th, 2012. They also have garden tractor pulling and go kart racing here as well. The track is approximately 1/8 mile.

Here is a link to them on Facebook:

Driveline / Super Mod Twin vs. Prepared Mower Gearing
« on: May 07, 2012, 10:22:21 am »
Ok guys, for those of you who are running or have run the Super Mod Twin/FXT class as well as a prepared class, do you have to run less gear (higher ratio/numerically lower) over a prepared build due to keeping the speeds up more through the corners? I'm assuming you would but not sure how much. I'm going to a track with about 220 feet straights, not sure how wide the turns are but I was told it was pretty close to being 1/8 of a mile. From what I understand the track is mostly flat. I've never even been to the track so I'm relying on what I was told. What kind of ratio should I start with on this thing? My pulley ratio is 1.6 using a ragb and I definitely want to keep the RPMs under 7000 and would prefer to top out at 6500. This is a whole new world to me and I haven't ran 8 inch rear wheels in a couple of years. I am using the 15X8X8 Hoosiers with a runout of 50.25 mounted on the wheels. I'm just a super mod rookie so I have no idea on where to even start as a final ratio. After doing some reading I've seen from about a 4.5 final ratio to 5.8 final ratio. Sounds really high to me but once again I have no clue how these things react on the track.

« on: April 26, 2012, 09:50:00 pm »
Ok guys I need help from a belt whiz lol. I have a type pulleys on my mower and I had to reroute my belt. Since I had to reroute it my belt is too short. Went thru some belts that I had and a 4L67 seemed to fit and a 4L66 is too short. Since my pulleys are a type pulleys what size A belt would be equal to a 4L67 belt?

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Throttle Problems On Intek
« on: April 13, 2012, 01:17:42 pm »
Im having problems with my throttle. This is the first time Ive actually used a dirty harry lever. Never had this much trouble before but it either doesnt open the throttle completely or the throttle doesnt return back to the idle screw. Ive tried tie straps to hold the line down and that doesnt help. Is there a such thing as the brake line Im using being too flexible? Ive used the same line on my last builds but never ever had this much trouble. The cable is not in a bind or anything. The cable moves freely inside the line. Did I mention what is usually an easy task has kicked my behind so far. I spent all last night working on this thing. Im hoping maybe my line is too flexible. If no one has any solutions as to what may be going on that will be my next step. Any ideas of what may be going on?

« on: March 05, 2012, 11:28:02 am »
I've been searching and can find all I need to know about static balancing a single cylinder. I haven't had any luck with finding any solid info on static balancing a v twin. Does anyone know where I can find some good material on static balancing a V twin? Thanks.

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Porting Question?
« on: February 27, 2012, 04:33:58 pm »
I've been wanting to get around to doing some of my own port work with a small flow bench I'm building. My question is this, does a rotary tool work good for doing port work? I have a rotary tool with the flex shaft and it's variable speed. I know an air die grinder works better for removing large amounts but working with aluminum I wouldn't think would be as bad as working with cast iron. I do have the carbide burrs for cutting aluminum but was looking to use the rotary tool because of it being a lot smaller in size. More less the ease of being able to get into the heads a little easier with rotary tool. Any opinions?

Coffee Shop / All Racers Please Read
« on: February 24, 2012, 12:04:01 pm »
As some of you know I arrived home yesterday evening to find that I had became a victim of theft. Someone had broken into my shop and stole lots of items out of my shop. I'm asking if you encounter anyone new that may approach you with any kind of racing parts or a Briggs Intek V twin race engine for sale to please let me know. Just anyone out of the ordinary to you anyway or if anyone new approaches your track to check them out a little. I'd greatly appreciate the help. Lots of tools were also stolen from my shop so that will be something else they may offer you. Here is a brief list of the items stolen so please beware:

3) Complete Briggs 44 CI Intek V Twins. One (1) of these engines was pretty much a complete racing engine minus camshaft. The other two (2) were complete stock engines.
Here is a description of parts that the racing engine consisted of:
-ARC Billet Flywheel
-ARC billet rods
-Stock Ported and Polished Cylinder Heads with Big Valves Installed
-Stock Polished Crank
-2 Barrel Aluminum Intake Ported and Polished to match cylinder heads
-Race Prepped 2 Barrel Nikki Carb with Adjustable Needle Valve
-EC Dist. Intek 90* inlet adapter, air filter adapter, and air filter.
-An unfinished mandrel bent 2 into 1 Header that was currently unfinished. The header exits to right side of engine.

Tool List:
-Blue Point top and bottom toolbox
-Snap On standard and metric wrenches
-Snap on standard and metric socket sets (shallow and deep in sizes 1/4, 3/8, 1/2")
-Real Gear USA 140 amp 110V mig welder with cart and argon bottle
-Makita 14 inch cut off saw
-Snap On 1/2 drive Cordless Impact
-Craftsman Bench Grinder with stand
-Dewalt 4 1/2 inch grinder
-Hitachi 6 inch grinder
-Coleman 5500 Watt Generator
-JobSmart (Tractor Supply Store Brand) 10 Gallon Horizontal Air Compressor
-Lots of other general use hand tools.

I'm probably forgetting lots of things here but this was my main items. I'd greatly appreciate anyones help. All items were stolen in Swainsboro, Ga.

Briggs Flathead / 8 Horse carb question
« on: February 13, 2012, 11:05:48 pm »
On a 8 horse horizontal flatty, are the updraft carbs any good for racing? Or would it be better to use maybe a 56 walbro carb. I dont see a name on the carb but the engine came from a generator. I have a generator that the electrical part on it is junk but the engine runs great. Thinking maybe a future project.

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Intek and vanguard exhaust
« on: January 16, 2012, 06:13:27 pm »
Working on my new header for my Intek twin. I didnt have anymore flanges from a twin so I got a couple from a single OHV thinking they were the same. Well I found out the Intek has a wider bolt pattern. Looking at buying some flanges but all I see are for the vanny which leads to my question, does the intek and vanny have the same bolt pattern?

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Mandrel bends for a header
« on: January 02, 2012, 12:26:45 am »
I know most guys buy mandrel bends from columbia. I remember seeing where someone posted about buying a box of rejects from them. Do you call or is it an email thing? Reason im asking is because ive got to build a new header for my intek and everything is so tight that  I honestly dont know what degree bends or how many that Im going to need yet. Im just gonna have to get some and see how I can get it to work out so that I will have equal length primaries.

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / V Twin Roller Rockers
« on: December 15, 2011, 10:38:48 pm »
I've looked around at some roller rockers for my intek v twin (and the vanguard since they will also work). All of the rockers that I've found have been 1.5 rocker ratio. Does anyone know of any roller rocker arms with the stock rocker ratio of 1.32? If the 1.5 roller rockers is my only option, for those of you running them on the intek, have you had any problems with premature valve guide wear?

Chassis / Painting Plastic
« on: December 10, 2011, 06:09:41 pm »
After looking around in the local stores I could not find a plastic primer so I bought some plastic paint. Well painted my plastic last weekend and thought I could come back with automotive primer over that. Needless to say it made a mess from the chemical reaction on one of my pieces. Does anyone know of a good plastic primer that automotive paint can cover without wrinkling? Now I probably got to do the other pieces the same way just so I can paint them.

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Prefilter For EC filter
« on: December 04, 2011, 10:11:44 pm »
I spoke with Tony at EC this week about a prefilter or an outerwear for their vtwin air filter and he said they didnt make any. What are some you guys doing to keep your filters cleaner during a race?
