Lets hear it!
Do you run wide front and rear wheels and tires? If so, could you explain why?
Do you run Narrower front and rear wheels and tires? If so, could you explain why?
I have heard or read a lot of different opinions and was interested in what ya'll had to input.
I am looking more for information related to handling of your mowchine.

Well I run 11x7.0x6 tires on a 8.25 rim up front I like spreading them out gives a firmer feel in the front end. I run 12x9x6 tires on 9" rims in the back I like the feel of the tire gives a little and provides a bit more bit and I can run lower pressures. I know I had some loose issues at the AAMC but I found that problem it wasnt chassis, it was the tires. That will be changed very soon. But ya never know unless you dont try something... Want to know more call me sometime LOL.

Ron Prepared Chassis or FXT/S ?

I will be running a FXS

On mt prepared chassis I prefer a narrower tire on the front and on my supermod style wider fronts. On a prepared chassis I don't feel the need for the extra traction the wider tire gives you but on the wider chassis there is more need for right front grip.

Why do you think the super mods need more right front grip vs the prepared chassis?

Entering the corners harder n faster than the prepared and come off harder
-
I understand the supermods are carrying more speed on entry and on the exit of the corner but how or why is a wider tire and wheel more advantageous than the narrower wheel & tire combination.
I guess I am trying to understand the theory behind the use of wide or narrow wheel & tire combinations.😉

Look at every dirt go cart out there. Wide right, skinny left. The prepared chassis have more roll, this plants the right front better.
-
Here's another way to look at it: side bite (roll over bite). Due to the narrower stance of a prepared chassis it will want to "ro;; over" easier than a wider stance. once it reaches that point there is no more "left turn" to go. Less pressure on the right front than the wider stance which can accommodate more roll over resistance hence the need for the wider tire. Plus the narrower tire in essence can give you a wider stance. How? well the distance between the insides of narrower tires is wider when the outside is limited to 38". This can come in effect on a rougher track as it will miss a few more bumps and ruts. Now if the ARMA prepared chassis go to 40" It will be an easy fix on mine as I'll go to the wider tires on the front.

Ok so if I understand what your saying the wider stance will not push as hard on the right front so you need more of a contact patch to help with front grip at turn in?
So is it safe to say that this is same on the rear but more for grip thru the middle and exit of the turn?

Just the opposite. A narrow tire on the right front of a wider stance will lose grip with the track due to increased pressure (push) and a wider tire with more contact with the ground will allow more pressure without losing its grip. There is less of a chance of destroying (wearing out) a narrow right front on a 38" chassis as there is a wider stance on a wider tire.

There are many variables in these changes. Every chassis and driving styles are different such as cross weight, side weight, nose weight, caster, camber, lead, tire pressures and widths, To answer your question the right front will probally have more pressure and when you turn left depending on caster it will apply more pressure and sometimes that can make you tight. That why you need a test and tune day at the track

I have been researching the whys and why nots on different tire and wheel combinations and I know lawn mowers have to run the same size wheel and tire on each axle while the wider right front would be better, I wonder if the wider left front tire would be hindering the weight transfer on turn in

It doesn't hinder as much as it's unnecessary in the prepared chassis IMHO. Many people do use wider tires on their prepared chassis. You asked for opinions and we gave them. Now you need to make your own decision based on what you were told and if you disagree go your own route.

Ok.... If I use the wider wheel and tire combination , how do I determine how wide of tire I need? Is there a way to figure this out or do you just put the biggest tire you can fit?
Oh yea I am not going to be running a prepared chassis been there done that.....it will be a supermod of some sorts
I am not trying to make a decision right now, I am trying to learn the theory behind deciding tire and wheel combos.....

And depending on whom, you run with US and I believe ARMA require the same size on both sides. BTMRA and the AAMC it doesn't matter to us.
That's the way this class should be open w/o tire and wheel size limitations.
-
Ron, I'm glad to hear your thinking about getting back in racing. Supermod is the way go and stagger is your friend that's the easiest way to make them turn nice. Like George said depending what organization tire has to be the same size. I ran 10" dia wheels on mine because I could get micro sprint tires cheap most everyone is using 8" The last time I seen you was at Phatbottom but you weren't racing at the time. I don't run super anymore I went with a mini late model and love it. Its safer for an old man like me :D

I would like one of them cars IF they looked more in proportion they just look goofy to me, and I cannot afford to start over!!!!

just look goofy to me,
I Agree George

Paul if they looked like a cyclone I would have to find away to convert over... That would be awesome. Even If I had to lay more back than up right the cyclones are simply a fine looking lil car!!!
Sorry Ron back to your thread now!!!

Absolutely!!!! I agree maybe not be as extreme as karts but at least let us run different sized wheels with same size tires.

They are definetly a lot SAFER!
Sorry Ron back to your thread now!!!
Oh you haven't stole it ;) you never know where the conversation will lead.
And no offense to the Mini late model guys but they do kinda look like a Carnival ride  besides that why would you build a chassis like that and not use a horizontal shaft engine ? Or run racing tires? I mean they aren't remotely close to a lawn mower.
