Other Engines / FC540 wiring question
« on: September 02, 2013, 04:06:32 pm »
I am putting a FC540v on my step son's mod-xr and just want to make sure I get this wiring right. I know the white wire goes to my kill switch but I am not sure where the wire from the ignitor goes. I am thinking to the switched hot wire maybe?

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Grass cutter fuel pump issue
« on: August 08, 2013, 10:05:14 am »
I have been working on a friends grass cutter for sometimes now with no progress. It is a 1980 Craftsman with a Briggs 18hp horizontal and a Walbro LMH carb and an autopulse fuel pump. He brought it to me complaining of low power and a surging that would only go away if the choke was closed about 3/4.

After rebuilding the carb, and fuel pump, checking hoses, cleaning the tank and a new filter and replacing the rings because he insisted the surge is still there. I put a clear filter on it so I could see fuel flow and I noticed that it would not fill the filter completely. I suspect this is causing the issue of not getting enough fuel to keep the bowl full. I just can't figure out why it is doing this.

Why not make the engine size 212cc max since that is what Harbor Freight advertises their clone as now and that is the most affordable and easiest to find engine around. Just my .02     I LOVE the idea behind this class though

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Governed single carb question
« on: June 24, 2013, 05:11:39 pm »
I am running a Briggs 31ci with the Walbro LMT 56 carb and the adjustable needle and EC air filter adapter in Mod-XR. How do I improve low end throttle response? I have tried gearing changes with no luck. It just bogs on starts and cost me at least one position on every start and restart. I am thinking maybe too rich on the low end needle but I am not sure. The idle is smooth at about 1500 or so and the plug is a light brown color after a race. Top end is great. Thanks for your help

we have a one lap foot race for the kids before the main each race week. Give them all candy when they cross the line. Then we have 5 or so adults roll a tire around the track...always fun to watch. We also do T-shirt giveaways and a 50/50 drawing

USLMRA Races / Is my bumper US legal?
« on: March 20, 2013, 03:50:03 pm »
I am planning on running my first US race at Charlotte Motor Speedway this year. I just wanted to see if my bumper would pass tech or if I needed to change/remove it. Thanks

I am reading correctly on the links above that we can bring our stuff Friday evening? Also, I know I will have to get a US membership but do the racers have to pay admission to the Auto Fair to come race?

Driveline / Cheap heavy duty brake line alternative
« on: February 26, 2013, 06:41:23 am »
I found these at Harbor Freight and they work great if you use a karting style 2 piece caliper or a single line system. They don't swivel so I hade to take my caliper off and screw them on after I attached the hose to the master cylinder. But for $4 they can't be beat

This might sound kind of silly but what size is the nipple on a stock fuel tank 1/4 or 5/16 ?

I have a set of the Ceng Shin Pro Techs too. 16-6.50x 8  4 ply on my Mod-XR and love them. I have been running the same set for 2 seasons now and can't see any real wear at all. I found this set on ebay

Yeah they will mess you up real quick. I was just trying to cut a bolt head off real fast last summer when the wheel grabbed and hit my left hand. I got my first 6 stitches EVER on my 34th birthday beacause I didn't want to take the time to put on gloves.
