I just use my pocket knife for all my port work.
me too.  we can't do a full port job, but skinning a little of the flash
don't hurt.

As far as I know the 25 and 30 are the same, the 27 has the same lift and duration
but the lode centers are 112 deg. whereas the rest are 100 or so.  This is according
to Tyler at MWSC.  By the way, the rest of the twins are the same as the 25.

What is the difference between the vertical and horizontal, other than the PTO length?
I turned a 46 pressure lube into a horizontal this year and ran it all summer in a twin engine
puller with 0 issues. On the rear engine I had the crank cut off and keyed to accept
my coupler setup.  Probably cheaper to get a crank, but if you can't find one you could
make it.

I got a pair out in the barn I'll measure this weekend if you don't mind waiting that long.

A graduated syringe and some rubbing alcohol will tell you very quickly. Make sure what
you're measuring is flat, put a measured quantity in the syringe (available at veterinary
supply places), fill the area to be measured till it JUST comes out, read what's left in the syringe,
and do the math.  Very helpful to know how to do this, works for heads as well and
allows you to cut them yourself and get them both the same.  6" tabletop belt sander works good
for cutting the heads down-thanks Paul!

Anybody ever tried the UFO's in these on the mowers?  I had some in my snowmobile
a few years back and they worked well once you got them dialed in.
HUGE difference in throttle response, really strong low and midrange,
no noticeable gain on top.

I got a carb like this on my puller, 24 584 053 I think is the part #, runs up to valve float with no
problems at all ( 5200 on my bone stock 18)

No substitute for pulling the heads and doing it right- the engine will thank you.

we have a class - 750 lbs including driver, 18-9.50-8 cut turf tires, 18hp or less briggs twins,
basically stock, ungoverned engines, 12" hitch height- where verticals are competitive.
Move up to 1000 lbs and 12" tires however and they ain't.  Real fun class and not very
expensive to play in.

wrist pins look ok?  I wouldn't trust the rods after that- they like to snap for no
reason other than spite, especially the 40 cube engines.  Keep
digging- I'm curious now.

shave the head and advance the ignition timing.

What do I need to do?  20% main jet increase, timing, more compression is what I know about.
I would like to try E85, but it's easier to get methanol where I'm at.  I realize more maintenance
is in order, not too concerned.  Just want more horsepower.
