Coffee Shop / Spec Class
« on: March 17, 2014, 11:21:51 pm »
Are spec classes the future? What are your thoughts? The question has been asked of me several times recently and I don't have the answers, just wondering what everyone thinks. BE NICE, just some food for thought.

Driveline / Gear Ratio
« on: December 05, 2013, 02:54:18 pm »
I was attempting to figure out a final ratio for a FXT I'm building. I thought I knew what I was doing and have been running the same engine and basic tire size on a BP with a 700. The new one will have a 1 to 1 LAGB so I figure this is easy, I'll just figure out what I have for a final on the BP and subtract 3 (for the 700 running in a 25/25). According to the EC calculator that does not work, why? What am I missing? I look at that calculator and I see a 8" engine pulley to a 5" tranny pulley = .625, through the tranny through a 25/25 gear set = 3, 12 tooth tranny output to a 46 axle = 3.83. now that equals 7.46 no matter how many times I add it up, BUT the calculator tells me 7.19.

I know I'm about to feel silly and wish I would have never asked but let me have it, what did I miss???

Chassis / Rear Bearing Size?
« on: October 17, 2013, 03:09:07 pm »
What are your thoughts on rear bearing size?

1.25 x 2.440 OD vs 1.25 x 2.835

No so much about price, the cassetts are the same price, the larger cermaic bearings are about x5 on the price and the steel bearings are about x3.

I see an advantage in the cassettes for the small bearing because there is a lot more material there (stronger?)

My question is will the larger bearing spin more freely and last longer (faster and more dependable)?

USLMRA Races / Saline County Fair Marshall, MO - Take Two
« on: June 03, 2013, 02:57:49 pm »
CILMRA will be racing at the Saline County Fair in Marshall, MO again this year. This will be an exhibition and is scheduled for Saturday evening July 13th, 2013. Races will start at 7PM. We should be done by dark but if not there are lights. If you pass all the safety items in tech we will find a class for you to race in.

This was a lot of fun last year with as many spectators as I’ve ever seen at a lawn mower race.  They truly loved what they saw last year and want to see more. I know the Kansas and Iowa crews will be there in full force, come join us for a good time!

Oh Yea, 2 words you all love……….. TOW MONEY!!!   :woo:

USLMRA Races / CILMRA at the Iowa Speedway June 1st 2013
« on: April 09, 2013, 02:38:24 pm »
The Central Iowa Lawn Mower Racing Association will be racing at the Iowa Speedway on Saturday June 1st (time TBD) during the I80 Iowa Grand Motorcycle Rally. This should be awesome and a great opportunity to get our sport out in front of new fans!  The bikers are going to love these mowers. This is a win win for both the Iowa Speedway and CILMRA as the Speedway will be the title sponsor of the STA-BIL National Points Race in Iowa on June 29th & 30th.

All mower racers who participate in the Rally Race will be given free admission to the Rally for the day and free tent camping, this will include your spouse.  Full camping accommodations also available for an additional cost.

Coffee Shop / Racing on Turf Questions
« on: April 08, 2013, 12:28:50 pm »
I have never been to a race on turf but have something in the works that may require us to do so.

Looking for advice and what to plan for and expect.

I have not walked the area yet but appears to be flat and fairly smooth with plenty of room.

Track size? Water? Grip? Grass length? Anything???

Thanks
Curt

Driveline / Wheel Options
« on: October 29, 2012, 01:40:49 pm »
We’re working on a FTS and trying to figure out wheel and tire sizes / options.  Pretty sure we’ll run 6” wheels and I’m trying to find wheels that come in all the standard widths and have bead lock options in black. Not having much luck…

Coffee Shop / Lift Table
« on: October 01, 2012, 11:18:00 am »
New lift table, old hospital bed and a sheet of 11ga banded with 1 1/2" angle. Works great, have about $150 invested. Still need to add a ramp.

Coffee Shop / Banner Ads
« on: September 05, 2012, 10:39:40 am »
Am I just slow or is this something fairly new? I’ve been noticing on this site as well as some others I frequent that the last 2 or 3 things I have “googled” or researched on the web are popping up in the banner ads. Go ahead and laugh at me if you must, this has probably been going on for years and I just noticed….

Coffee Shop / 1 1/4 " steering wheel
« on: June 18, 2012, 05:21:29 pm »
Has anyone found a throttle lever like a dirty harry that will fit the larger diameter steering wheels? I was looking at a new wheel that is 1 1/4 " diameter.

We will run local stock, super stock, CP, and BP classes. Depending on drivers attendance there will likely be SP, supermod and FX machines there as well. We will combine classes and everyone will have a place to race as long as the machines meet track and safety requirements.

Track promoters are asking that all drivers wear some kind of upper body protection.

If you received a warning from Tech at the last race please make sure you are squared away for this race.
