Driveline / What do you run for a rear axle
« on: April 22, 2007, 01:11:49 am »
Hey Guys,

I am running a 639 Peerless 3 speed. Great tranny.  But tonight on my 2nd race I snapped the new rear 4120 chrome molly axle!  I piece solid.
It broke just inside the right side of the case about a 1/4 inch inside.
Here I thought this chrome molly was the "stuff" for axles.

Do you all have any better ideas?  Tell me what you run.
 Thanks alot!

Briggs Flathead / What is the best RPM??
« on: January 13, 2007, 01:15:26 am »
Hey Guys,

I am running a Briggs 12.5 flat head.
I have Don's goodies inside. and a little outside. My max rpm is 6500.

My question is at what range does the motor perform at it's best?

Or another way to ask... About what rpm should I be running the motor, not to over rev but still not lug it down?

I ask this to figure out my pulley sizes.  The best way is to try different pulleys at the track I know.
But what I am trying to find out is the Motor "Power Band".

Thanks Guys.

Briggs Flathead / Compression release
« on: November 30, 2006, 11:37:57 pm »
Hey Guys,
I need a little help finding a compression release.
I have the same problem as everyone else when you put a cam in. But I have found that if you drill and tap the head and install a hand valve. That the motor will turn over then you close the valve and she will fire up.
The only problem for me is the heat likes to burn up my hand valve.
So I paid for a motorcycle compression release on E bay. No problem but the guy was out of stock.  He refunded my money no problem. But now I am still with out a compression release. He tells me it will be months before he gets any more in. :woo:
Have any ideas to share?
Thanks 1031

Briggs Flathead / Length of the intake
« on: August 31, 2006, 10:31:08 pm »
Can anyone help me out?
My question is about the lenght of the intake from the carb to the block.
Does the distance make any difference?
I am sure too long would be a bad thing. But does the length make any change such as in torque or responce or high end?

Thanks!

Kohler Engines / 12.5 kohler to briggs
« on: June 11, 2006, 11:21:02 pm »
Hey guys looking to change the kohler motor on my cutting lawn mower to a briggs.
Only problem is the wiring.
The kohler has a 3 wire regulator and a oil pressure light.
I have the starter working and the kill. but I need to know about the charging and light hook up.
 Can anyone help?
kohler cv12.5s spec no. 1260 ser 2201105564
not worried about the oil light.

the tractor has a kill wire hooked up and working.
A black wire hot all the time. The black wire went to the regulator.
the regulator has 2 wires coming out of the kohler flywheel hooked to it.
If someone can tell me where to find a kohler wiring diagram I can figure the rest out.
The kohler has a hole in the block that is how I bought the mower. Love the briggs motors.
Thanks guys.

Briggs Flathead / Carb hook up?
« on: January 12, 2006, 01:06:40 am »
Hey Guys and Gals.

I would like to know how you all hook up your throttle cable to your Carb?
Do you go direct to the butterfly shaft or do you use the original hook up?
What is the best way?
I seem to really wear my butterfly shaft or carb housing.
Just looking for a better way.

Thanks for your time.

Other Engines / tach's
« on: December 24, 2005, 02:13:44 am »
Ok another question for you guys.
I know about the Digatron and other brands of tach's.
Are there any other tach's that can be used that are a little cheaper?
Is there any way to modify an automotive tach to run on your mower?

thanks guys,

Tires / NON Kart wheels and tires
« on: December 17, 2005, 01:54:09 am »
Our little piece of racing heaven limits our club to lawnmower tires and rims. "need to be turf saver type tire"
I don't have a problem with this rule. It's the same for everyone.
My question is where can I find a good bearing for my front rims?
The factory bushing even with grease are not the best for racing.
Friction is my enemy here, and when they start to wear you loose your front end setup.
I have found regular lawnmower bearings, But they are not built for the pressure or the speed.
I have looked at Kart bearings but not able to find excatly what I need.
I know you guys have an idea where I can look.
All a person here has to do is ask the question, and someone will help you out! That is why this place is the bomb 8)

Thanks

Briggs Flathead / fly wheel keys
« on: December 14, 2005, 11:14:23 pm »
Ok so you see the offset flywheel keys on the market.

Does this help any to use or does it sheer off to easily?
I know about the billet flywheels and the built in adjustments available.
But for the country boys with the stock flywheel I was wondering if this will help me out any or it it a waste of my time?
Any info will help me out.
 Thanks
