My wife and I already have plans for this weekend:(. Lol. Thanks for the lead though. I'm hoping to get to one ASAP. I'm ok with traveling a few hours for one.

Both of those could be great motorcycle rides for my wife and I. Maybe I can get my brothers to ride with us to check it out.

On another note sorry for getting off on the wrong foot on this site.  I feel I was misunderstood.  I am willing to spend money and time working on my mower.  I just was not sure if an mtd chasis would be worth working on.  I have since got the mower stripped down to the frame and believe it is solid and in good shape.  We are in the process of using square tubing to reinforce it and get it ready for the proper steering and other safety measures.  Was not sure if the variable speed gear box was worth working with and still not sure but will probably look into other gearbox options.

I was wondering if there was any mower racing or racers near my area?  I would love to go to an event to see what it is about and to pick some brains.  Not too sure how to get started building a nice mower.  Thanks for any information.

We don't plan on getting it too fast at all.  The main junk to it is the steering and the plastic body pieces which we have removed and used steel to strengthen it up.  We plan on also changing out for a direct steering set up and putting a more solid front end on it.  What is a recommended mower for this application?

The engine seems to be in awesome shape and I remember it being pretty quick and powerful when I use to live at home and mowed the lawn.  Typically it was about getting done fast the getting scolded for leaving sections of the yard looking in poor shape.. LOL.

We know the battery is bad but thought we could jump it then ride it without the battery.  The problem is as soon as the battery charger comes off, the fuel solenoid shuts and the engine dies.  Don't want to run it with a battery but don't know if we can bypass the solenoid without adversely affecting the carbs performance.

I know I have a piece of junk to work with.  It is a troy bilt with variable speed peddle.  My brother and I have been working on getting it back running.  We have it running now and plan on either removing or modifying the governor, changing front and rear pulley if we can make that work.  If we can get these things done we plan on using the steering shown in George's build and adding a better brake.  We just plan on riding it around for the heck of it and don't plan on racing it.  My question is if anyone has ever been successful at getting any descent speed from these pieces of garbage.  LOL.  Any advice is appreciated.  Maybe sometime we will get a better machine for this application...
