Briggs Flathead / Re: LMT carburetor throttle return spring
« on: November 30, 2012, 10:38:56 pm »
For Racing. I have it on a 8hp B&S. I had a linear spring hooked to a bracket I made off of the intake. Looking to make it a bit cleaner by getting the proper spring that is wound around the throttle shaft.

Briggs Flathead / LMT carburetor throttle return spring

Looking for a spring that fits on the throttle shaft of a Walbro LMT Model 28 to work as a return. Tried a few searches but nothing of value came up. Part numbers or pics would be tremendous!

Driveline / Gears in a Peerless 350
« on: July 11, 2012, 11:22:15 pm »
I am building a 350 for my newest mower and looking for some input. I have done a lot of reading and other research. I am swapping bushings to bearings, installing oil seals and removing reverse. I am also seeing if there can be improvments made to the internal gearing. I took gears from a 600 and came up with the following combo inside.

2nd has 25:30 gears
3rd  has 30:25 gears

My purpose is to be able to use the range of EC quick change sprockets. From the research I did changing the gearing would allow someone to be able to use the range of smaller drive sprockets currently available.

Where to drill the new vent hole in the back, pictures please.   Its been explained to me on the phone but it just isn't clicking.

I got the number for the pump fed needle seat (thanks George) its B&S - 691780

George also described how to externally vent the carb. I was at work when I talked with him, so I wasn't able to have the carb in front of me when he describe where to drill the hole. I got that it was in the lower left of the motor side of the carb but....I really don't want mess this up. Can someone help me out? Pictures would reeeeaaaallllyy be helpful.

Briggs Flathead / Carb kits for fuel pump
« on: July 04, 2009, 03:36:14 am »
I read what it takes to convert a walbro carb to from a gravity fed to take a fuel pump.

1. modify intake for vaccum line - do able

2. install carb kit for a fuel pump - ?

Does anyone know what kit number that might be?

Chassis / Tranny placement?
« on: May 14, 2009, 01:31:47 am »
I'm putting a 700 trans. into my new chassis. I have always used a transaxle before so, I could use a little guidance please.

I need to layout where to put my trans plate. Is there a prefered distance or angle between the sprockets of the trans and the rear axle?

I have a 700-023, an EC 1 1/4 axle w/ sprocket, and  EC idler sprocket. There is also about a  2" vertical difference between them.

Driveline / Re: Sprockets

I took Ty's small chart and put it into a spread sheet to expand it to pulleys I was going to try. I then added in tire diameter (13) to divide the circumference by the final ratio to compare that to what George had recomended with 15 inch tires.

Maybe I'm over-thinking it, but I do alot of number comparison for my job and this seemed logical.

I am having the same questions with a similar mower. I think this has helped me. I just need one more piece of info. George - was your recomendation for gears based on tire size? I was figuring tire size/diameter into my gear chart. Did I do it right?

Tires / Greenball Tires?
« on: February 08, 2009, 11:47:43 pm »
Has or does anyone ever use Greenball Tires? I got to see one of their catalogs and they have a couple of tread patterns that look like they might play well in the dirt.

Chassis / Re: Bumpers

Sorry, I don't have a picture yet my new mower is collecting parts to start the build. So I'll throw out my idea see how you like it. I have a piece of 4" wide aluminium flat bar (.250 thick) and round the ends to make my bumper.

Briggs Flathead / Re: ARC flywheel -8hp ?????
« on: August 30, 2008, 11:50:24 pm »
Thanks for your help to everyone. The lapping compound worked now getting it off is alot tougher  It just works that way.

I went to 5" iron drive pully and things worked okay but its still weak on the bottom of the curve. We still beleive a slightly heavier flywheel is the answer. Anyone have some thoughts on this?

Driveline / Bigger pullies but the same ratio
« on: July 20, 2008, 08:17:46 pm »
Is there an advantage to running larger pullies while maitaining the same ratio?

i.e. having a 1:1 ratio and using 6" pullies vs. 5" pullies.

I'm running them into a 600 peerless transaxle. I tried a higher ratio (6:5) but it just killed it when trying to start.

USLMRA Races / Size of the tracks
« on: July 18, 2008, 09:08:30 pm »
I'm curious as to the dimension of the tracks in the different Association. The tracks here (Southwest Washington State) must be pretty small in comparsion. our straight aways are approx. 100 ft and about 30 ft in diameter in the corners. What else for track configurations are out there?
