Briggs Flathead / Re: mow better timing
« on: May 14, 2014, 12:07:06 am »
If you lap the flywheel hub to the crankshaft taper, a key is not needed at all, if you use a degree wheel you can set timing wherever you like that way, but if its a stock engine, dont expect big gains  ;)

This mower is for sale, as it sits, new peerless ragb, one new rear tire, other in great condition, new axle, big rotor, 56 tooth sprocket, will throw in comet clutch, set up for vertical intek or probably any other engine easily enough, I will put an ad in the For Sale Section later, thanks.

« on: June 09, 2013, 10:38:33 pm »

i cant find the ohv pan i had laying around!

Driveline / Re: a question on front and rear axle placement

if your building an mtd style frame with standard 8x8 rims on back and 6x6.5'' in front, look through the build sections and ask, somebody will give you the measurements you are looking for, they all pretty much the same on the rear, front axle placement is pretty standard as well, if i still had my mod-x i could measure, but im sure somebody give you the measurements!

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Re: slow crank

even if starter was bad, run the heaviest cable that you can still work with, you would be suprised the difference it can make and as said run the negative to the starter itself as well!

mark the plud with a felt tip  pen where the electrode points and use different thicknesses washers till you get the electrode pointed
 so you have clearance

what class mower is this...unless its a real lightweight machine, 3/4'' is too small in my opinion!

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Re: arc brass weights ???
« on: December 11, 2012, 10:20:03 pm »
i ran a billet dogbone with a stock (good) rod for three seasons on an un-governed engine with no failures whatsoever, wouldnt have bothered me at all to throw a cam in it along with a billet flywheel, but rules didnt permit it, even the 28's will shake at certain rpm's with the brass weights, on most i have seen it is low in the rpm band around 2500 rpm, but ya seldom ever see that rpm in a race engine so its never an issue, be fore warned tho if the counter weights do decide to vacate the block rest assure they will take everything with them including that high dollar cam, and dont be scared of the good briggs stock rod, George ran them a long time before arc came out with the billet rod!
i also had a 31'' with the 1.25'' crank in it, so they do exist, just not sure how common they are!

Driveline / Re: MCP brake setup questions
« on: September 21, 2012, 12:24:07 am »
thats the problem i had, in order to get enough leverage to have good line pressure, which requires extending the lever on the master cylinder, i ran out of travel with the brake lever and cable, i thought about some type of bell crank but  never looked into much more than that
