Tecumseh Engines / Re: Mod x 17 ohv roller rockers
« on: November 09, 2021, 12:08:35 am »
Al, George built my first Indian single. Then I got hooked up with Ed and Bert. They were both very instrumental in helping my stuff run well before I went to a MWSC Kohler. George?s engine made good power and was smooth. Though the Wisconsin stuff was an absolute kick in the pants on the bottom end and mid range.

That style in the above picture is what Bert would have ran. He didn?t actually machine them. A good friend of his helped with the design and did the machining. Those were only available through Bert and he would contact his guy (can?t recall his name). You should be able to pull a part number off the bearing and order some to replace what?s in them. If the rollers are flat, you can machine a new set out of some drill rod. I have all the info stashed away somewhere and could find it if still needed. I had a set that Bert and Ed had set me up with for my single OHV at one point that needed rebuilt.

Its been a couple years since I’ve been on anything myself. I do miss it, life is just so busy. However I made a lot of great friends and other connections that are helping me succeed in business today. What I wouldn’t give to do it all over again now that I’m a few years older and know more about life.
I do miss George being around. I also really miss Bert. My Facebook isn’t the same without him just chiming in out of nowhere to busy my balls about whatever he felt necessary
Funny you should post Howie, I was actually thinking about you the other day and wondering what you had been up to. I also saw some clips of the Old Goat Jim Klauss in a video and wondered about him as well. The few times I saw him at the track I liked his company. Hope everyone is doing well.

They are really one of the only places that follows a sanctioning body's rule set. Fast track, well maintained and taken care of. I recommend going there whenever possible!

You can search them out by filter size and find part numbers on the outer wears website. You can do the same on the K&N website to find ya a filter that will work.

Chassis / Re: dampener

I had one that I used on one of my early chassis builds with the simple single front draglink set up. I think it was off a kart, worked great and I liked it. I switched up to center pivot steering and never was able to have the room to run it again so just quit with it. I looked back through my build thread and regretfully didn't take pictures of that part. I may still have the dampener floating around in the shop somewhere though!.

Agree with Ed. The pro Armor was by far my favorite

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Re: What oil
« on: November 19, 2014, 11:10:01 am »
If the engine builder clearanced everything for a 50 weight oil, then that's the route to run. Lesser weight oil can hurt bearings. Or being clearanced for thinner oil and running a heavier oil is about a guaranteed  way to eat a bearing.

What did the guy you bought it from run?? Also what is the bearings clearanced for?? There's more to picking oil than colors and brand names. I've always ran Schaeffers oil, 10-30 for a while then my last motor was set up for 15-40

Buy a grade 8 bolt that is about 5 inches long, then make sure to set things up so the bearings ride on the shank of the bolt and not the threads.

Briggs makes potties too, don't forget! I have a Briggs indoor commode that is one fine flusher indeed!

Surprised it hadn't exploded yet to be honest   :D

I never lightened gears in one but never saw a need to. To lighten 30% is a lot. Which means big holes and I would be afraid that would make them weak if your trying to pound them with a good bit of horsepower.

Any Kohler pro I have saw was a command. Single or twin. There's should be a model number in the shroud just like normal. That'll tell ya, you just may have to do some parts looking to see what the part numbers come back to then compare to what goes in a command

Tires / Re: Harden tires without tire oven.
« on: July 15, 2014, 10:58:28 am »
Simple Green softens tires...It may be the wrong time of year as Al mentioned, but an old truck puller trick is to leave them mounted and set them on the shed roof in the fall. The sun and elements over the winter will harden them up for spring when pulling season starts. That's about the only way to do it without an oven that I know of personally.
