Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Cutting racing Costs Part 2
« on: December 20, 2013, 02:48:43 pm »
Cutting racing costs in Super modified class Part!   dealt with NEW SMALL INEXPESIVE, RELIABLE, TURBOcharging kits  made for 600-1000cc engines. 500$ cost all inclusive + porting & regrind cam 100hp @ 5000 RPM ,  MUCH Cheaper than current normally asperated  briggs/Kohler V-twin set up .
Example of  100hp new small turbo kitted engine  set up :

1 STOCK Briggs 20hp v-twin = 1000$
2 Camshaft regrind             =  200$
3 Forged pistons                =  300$
4 Billet aluminum forged rods = 230$ Includes bearings
5 Copper head gaskets        =    40$
6 New Small/mini Turbo kit    = 500$ All Inclusive =oil pump, oil cooler, fittings, lines , boost gauge
7,port heads ?                    = 100$
8 VM 34mm mikuni new ebay  =100$
9 Mini sponge air filter           =  10$
10 rubber carb boot to turbo  =   10$
   TOTAL 1990$ SUPER MODIFIED 700-750cc BRIGGS V-TWIN RACE ENGINE 100hp @ 5500 RPM 15LBS BOOST

USING 35 HP 993cc BRIGGS VANGUARD V-TWIN  ADD roughly 500$ =2690$ using 10-12 lbs boost 100hp@5000 RPM more Displacement lower RPM = even more reliable AND turbocharging adds torque.

Even if you add anouther 500$ for special digital dakota head temp guages(trail tech makes same 30$)
still ???? WAY cheaper 1/2 price of  traditional normally asperated set up.

Trying large displacement flathead set up this summer .

NEW small MINI turbos work MUCH better than the T-3 units (designed for autos ) spool from idle up. linear power band =no lag

SEE YOU TUBE VIDEO ...TITLE : CUSTOM TURBO MINI CHOPPER .... USES BRIGGS 700-750 cc V-TWIN WITH  MINI  TURBO RMB31 , NO LAG  SHARP LINEAR POWER BAND

..I have noticed ..CHANGE/NEW THINKING  IS SACRILIGIOUS but  not trying to re invent the wheel , just make the wheel CHEAPER and actually more reliable from Lower rpm .

LASTLY 2 SIMPLE COMMON SENCE  RULES SHOULD BE IMPLEMENTED TO MOWER RACING . .... 1. ALLOW THE USE OF STOCK BRIGGS 35HP/993cc V-TWIN  AND KOHLERS 38-40HP CH1000 1000cc V-TWIN. 2.ALLOW THE USE OF SIMPLE 38MM-40MM MIKUNI CARBURATORS THEY COST ONLY 50-60$ NEW ON EBAY..SIMPLE CHEAP SET UPS TO HELP SPORT BECOME MORE AFFORDABLE IN THESE TOUGH TIMES........HAVING  TO TAKE 20-23 HP  V-TWINS THEN BORE CYLINDERS.BUY INSTALL  HIGH RPM PUSH RODS, ROLLER ROCKERS,STROKER CRANK RODS, HIGH LIFT CAMS , RACE STAINLESS STEEL OR TITANIUM VALES WORK HEADS ECT ECT .
I am 48 years old semi retired and fairly well off some would say. So I can afford a total works race engine . But I CAN REMEMBER BEING SO POOR I WAITED FOR SOMEONE TO BREAK IN MY HOUSE ...SO I COULD MUG THEM... LOL  2 BASIC COMMON SENCE RULES WOULD MAKE IT EASIER FOR PEOPLE TO ENJOY THE SPORT .

WELL IM ..SURE THIS POST WILL BE ERASED OR I WILL GET BOOTED . SO i WISH  YOU AND YOUR FAMILY HAVE A WONDERFUL HOLIDAY AND A GREAT RACING SEASON  FOR THE UPCOMMING 2014 SEASON

Sorry for delay in responce I have been extremely busy at work.
Anyhow ... When Racing harley Sportsters In BOTT series  the engine cases would crack at the bottom of the..V...after a cople of races, hebut after  cryogenic treatment  the same cases would last  almost the entire season (2-3 races vs 12 races) We also could get anouther 250-500 rpm out of the engine and  brake rotors lasted longer. We did the entire engine transmission and it only cost 200$.
Where you get the process done means ALOT. The heat up procedure is suposed to be done in certain stages at certain temps ect and if  the shop is cutting corners the end result suffers. CRYOGENICS DOENT TURN A BRIGGS AND STRATTON VANGUARD V-TWIN INTO A DUCATI 1198 V-TWIN.   If you get a shop telling you  your briggs can now do 10000rpm ect walk away, but it does  work well with lower grade metals by taking out soft spots/evening out tensil strenth of metals  and the process has a relativly low cost.

3
We are looking to upgrade to electrical system on the 993/1000cc Briggs& Stratton vanguard V-twin . Any suggestions on where we can get  an upgrade kit  as to increase output of   generator/alternator ?

4
How many people use cryogenic  metal treatment to stengthen there engine components?

We have had great success  with the process.

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Do you install piston oilers/jets?
« on: November 19, 2012, 10:36:07 pm »
I am building a high performance vanguard V-twin  and was wondering if  it is common to instal piston oilers/jets that shoot oil to the undrside of the pistons for cooling and for proper lubrication of the piston wrist pins  ect.   Thank You  Jake

Drag Mowers / Re: Doing 2 UNIQUE EXTREME Briggs engine builds Question??
« on: September 24, 2012, 12:54:20 pm »
My crew chief on the motorcycle race team was the head racing engineer at Buell and also has won 21 or 22 national titles as a crew chief. He knows EVERYONE lol and is getting phenominal deals  for the  Harley components for the build .  The rolling chassis comes in around 1/2 of  the sticker price ( roughly 10-12k) The last Mower racer   I ran  was with a different mechanic ( my currenent crew chief was  starting new business and took 2 years off of racing )    The race mower  engine used then  was a B&S OHV single  starting with a 420cc ? displacement  and then stroked to roughly 600cc.  Compression 14.5 worked heads valves  ect ect ect .  I ...THINK.. we here getting about 40hp, but our main concern  was attaining a  broad, flat power band  and good midrange .As im sure you know , Horsepower isnt worth much if  you cant get the tires to hook up off the corners.
Question:   Have the cases/block and the crank main bearings  on the Briggs Vanguard engines  held up well?  any weak points in the engines that we should work on ? thank You Paul End

Drag Mowers / Doing 2 UNIQUE EXTREME Briggs engine builds Question??
« on: September 22, 2012, 11:15:13 pm »
Actually its 3 builds   1. 60ci  air cooled briggs v-twin to power  1936  Harley replica . briggs engine without shouds looks like its from 1920s  High performance/High compression pistons, cams, rods , carb, valves, rockers  ect fully modified . A company that builds performance briggs engines stated engine should  make roughly 75 hp at the crank.
 2. 45ci briggs v-twin   fully modified a above  engine.  This is going in   pro chasis  to race next season . HP unknown?
What HORSEPOWER AND TORQUE DO THE SUPER MODIFED MOWERS MAKE/RUN???

3.   THIS IS THE...VERY.. UNIQUE BUILD .... THE BRIGGS 60CI(993cc) liquid cooled briggs v-twin.
this engine has had CRYOGENIC METAL TREATMENT,COATED FORGED PISTONS AND RODS, 10:1 compression, TITANIUM VALVES , RACE SPRINGS, CERAMIC ENGINE BEARINGS, KEHIN RACE CARB,PORTED,POLISHED HEADS , STEEL RACING CRANK , FEBER RACING RADIATOR AND OIL COOLER,  STAINLESS  HIGH FLOW OIL FILTER ECT ECT.

QUESTION  HORSEPOWER& TORQUE OF  DRAG RACING MOWERS? UNLIMITED MOWERS?

THIS ENGINE IS TO POWER A NEW ..HARLEY DAVIDSON  ULTRA ELECTRA GLIDE  WITH 6 SPEED  BAKER TRANSMISSION.

ON PAPER , THE UNDERSQUARE COMBUSTION CHAMBERS AND 90 DEGREE CYLINDER ANGLE  IS ACTUALLY A ..BETTER .. ENGINE FOR A TOURING MOTORCYCLE THAN THE ORIGINAL HARLEY ENGINE .   THE BRIGGS DESIGN DEVELOPES HP& TORQUE AT A LOW RPM COMBINED WITH THE UNDER SQUARE COMBUSION CHAMBERS+LOW BOOST TURBOCHARGING  CREATES A WIDE LEVEL POWERBAND ( LIKE A MACK/CUMMINGS ECT DIESEL) IMAGINE A HARLEY WITH NO VIBRATION, STONG EVEN POWER AT ALL RPM AND TWICE THE POWER.

QUESTION: HORSEPOWER& TORQUE OF UNLIMITED  BRIGGS DRAG MOWERS & SUPER MODIFIED TRACK MOWERS.
WE  ARE LOOKING FOR HP/TORQUE FIGURES SO WE  DONT UNDER ESTIMATE STRESS AND MISS A WEAKNESS IN THE ENGINE . THANK YOU PAUL END

Stubby I was thinking of that possibility. But if it makes it through the season, I would just order anouther flywheel Jake

Guy one we do need ... because of the high compression do you know of anyone who makes a high output starter?  or at least a metal gear for the starter for opposed . Thanks Jake

Briggs Flathead / Opposed twin high compression works Phenominal!!
« on: January 14, 2009, 01:39:28 am »
Guys I said I would keep you posted .  Put in the Ross high compression pistons(650$) and it worked BETTER than expected .  No fueling problems ect .  Went with the 14 short stroke engine ( have to get back to ou on RPMs ) Off the corners was pulling away from the Vanguard engines ( yes they have cams ect ) Only 1 OHV engine matched us and we havnt got  the front end parts hooked up yet ( have full suspention from Acme mower) only rear . he could out handle us  so the jury isn out yet on that either .    We had to run octane booster ( this is outlaw mower )But yes  high compession pistons DO work well on a flathead ( looks like a flathead piston with a tounge ) Im sure compression would work WONDERS on an OHV engine . Ps im not a  16 yr old kid  blowing smoke up your behind . if I get the time ( tax season ) and can get computer to post pics i;ll throw a few up Jake... Ps Flathead puller thanks again for the info on the rods  im sure it would have snapped one without your info Jake

Sorry for the lateness of reply but on the package its says recall... bladepowersports isnt very good at describing its products ... In fact my 42$ tach from there  looks  similar to that but not the same one ? ... Maybe they sent me the 75$ model by mistake.    Jake

We run a 30mm OKO flatslide 60$ . Its an exact knockoff of what they run on the briggs formula engine. Jake

Big we have a second opposed that we are going to leave bone stock(beefed up rods  so they dont break)  with a litle nitrous oxside unit for a motorcycle.  Our track has a run what you brung motor policy. Either way , high tech,  high compression opposed twin or stock opposed with nitrous . I want to beat the guy that runs a 350cc motocycle engine. His mower doesnt turn that well(almost stock suspention) but he leaves everyone behind  down the straits including the OHV V-twins and wins the races We bought everthing  Mike Cupps sells at acme mower racing so the handling is covered. if we can match him down the strait we have him beat . To pass him down the strits would be icing on the cake.... Jake
