You could do like me and just make them yourself?

I used 6” discs cut from 3/8” steel, drilled and welded a 3/4” sheave to them and drilled out my bolt pattern. Then I welded 4 grade8 bolts through the bolt holes, and your all set. Total cost was about $20 (cut the discs from scrap from a local welder in town - freebie)

Worst crossbar as you call it in the mowers.
Out of the 40 mowers I have torn down, only
about 3 were not damaged to reuse on a grasscutter.
I sent you a message.

So then my best bet, for budgetary purposes would be to grab some steel and fab up a new cross bar? I can handle that, just wanted to make sure it wasn’t feasible to use the stock crossbar first. Any where I can shave time is good, and where I can’t save time, at least I can save $$ on the few things I’m comfortable fabbing myself.

Stock mtd front ends are for mowing. So nothing is what I would advise.

All I would realistically “reusing” is the crossbar, (welded in place, instead of floating). Not sure how that is any different from buying a new piece of box tubing and welding it in.

So since E.C. doesn’t ship to Canada anymore (thanks to all the complaints about shipping costs) and my budget doesn’t really have room right now anyway, I’d like to know what I can do with the stock mtd axle. I have some ideas of what I need to do but I’d like to hear the thoughts from the masters before I go too crazy.

It seems like the castor should be ok as is, not sure about the toe or camber on the stock axle though.

I would definatly fab up some new spindles, I don’t think the factory ones are “up to snuff”, and of course a direct steering setup.

So, your turn, what do I need to do to use the stock axle?

One of those wires will be kill wire, the others are charging system.
Which charging system does motor have?
All I know is it’s a 16amp alternator/charging system.

Ive found google results that say charging system, some that say one of the wires is something to do with oil pressure, and an array of other results.

Time to get to work. Finally the snow melted enough to get my chassis home to get going on it.

Started the same way as most guys. Getting rid of everything i dont need/dont want. including the old 12HP engine. started a nice pile of useless pieces that could potentially find homes as something else.

Then i went and picked up the new 24HP Vtwin, and dropped it on to check placement. After a bit of wiggling around managed to find 4 holes that line up. Never bought a new engine before. I didnt know the block wasn't tapped for mounting bolts. so now im gonna have to dig out my tap and die set....wherever i put that when i moved here lol.

spent the rest of the day staring at it and planning the layout of everything else and finding more stuff that i dont need that i could remove. pretty much only keeping the frame and tin.

I also need to find a 110v welder to borrow for the next few weeks.

Now its time to browse the other topics and find some answers to questions.

I stand corrected after some careful positioning, the new motor does match a set of holes.

One less thing to do! Getting excited to start this build.

I still have to have a close look, but it would appear that none of the bolt holes match up with the new engine.

Let the customization begin.

That would be pretty sweet if it did.

Is there any benefit to extending the frame? Looks like it would be pretty easy to do I. This frame.

Good day folks. I’m working off a mastercraft/mtd frame. Stock engine was a single cylinder 12hp B&S, I’m putting in a brand new 24Hp vtwin.

Looking for ideas as to how to make the new engine fit. Has anyone done similar? I was thinking about stretching the frame a few inches but not sure if this is the best option. Any input would be happily welcomed.

Ordered my new engine today. Gonna be a brand spanking new briggs and Stratton 24Hp vtwin pro series. Should be enough to do what I want.

Would have loved to get a vanguard, but I’ll see how this one does for now. If I can go bigger in the future, I have 2 carcass vanguards that need new blocks my small engine guy is willing to give me. They are just too big for the current race I’m building for.

Small engine guy in town pointed me to here where I was able to find what I need.

https://www.chinapartsdepot.com

They are Vancouver based, and pricing is in Canadian funds.

So you don’t think I could use the car caliper with a Non car rotor? Such as a sprocket or similar?

$180us after shipping, duty, conversion etc = might as well buy the ATV brake bundle I was looking at today. Which I will probably do unless I can find an atv bone yard to scavenge.

Most of the kart brakes I’ve seen available online say they are rated for 150-250cc, the engine I’m looking at is rated 724cc, will a kart brake have enough stopping power?

There no kart track around here so used stuff would be hard to find, and :censored: farmers toss their dead equipment in the field/pit never to be seen again.

I still have a bit of time before I’m ready for it, so I can’t still think on it, just want to weigh all mom options.
