Independent shop or dealer untill ready to open your own? Go with dealership as they will send to to school and give you time to buy tools and plan on your future. Half of running your on shop is knowing who to work for and what to work on. Also have all the eqipment you can get as coustermers like to stay with one shop and if they come in and you cant do a job then they go elsewhere they may not come back. Pace your self till you know you can make it in this hard world of turning wrenches then go for it. Just remember only you can make a shop work and it want run it.s self. Long hours for less $$$  and it takes a couple years to get it started and make a fair living. Just some of the things I done 19 years ago to make my shop a go. But there's nothing like it! Hope this helps.

Fans is most likely the last thing to make it run hot if it dont run hot seating idle as they on most cars kick off above 35 MPH. Thermostat would be the first thing to change and don.t buy a cheap one. Ather that would be the radiator half pluged. The longer you run it the hotter it gets. But I did fix a couple over the years with head gaskets, radiator would be my guess.
Your local radiator shop can do a flow test on your radiator just pull it and drop it by.
