Briggs Flathead / Re: Opposed stroker 46ci
« on: August 19, 2017, 11:26:30 pm »
I can't tell you the part numbers but there are two different 46ci engines one has the same bore as the 42ci with a longer stroke. The other has the same stroke as the 42ci but a bigger bore. Combine the two different 46ci blocks and cranks and you get nearly 50ci.

I didn't know about the Jackson Speedway. What classes of mowers run there? I am hoping to make it down to Potterville next weekend. There is also a race up in Standish August 1st.

What's the application for this engine?  Even it was legal for mower racing I can't imagine it could run a hole race at 15lbs without having a meltdown.  What does it have for internals and flywheel?

Changing cam timing on most small engines including the opposed has no effect on ignition timing. Ignition is triggered by the crank not the cam.
Great post so far lots of good information.

Yes most are. It is supposed to give you more useable power where dual might get more peak hp but everybody has there own opinion along with length and size.

Driveline / Re: Drive pullies...Aluminum vs. steel...
« on: March 27, 2016, 10:49:00 pm »
You have to find the one piece steel pulleys they do not split. The 8" steel drive pulleys can even be made lighter than the aluminum EC.  The EC 5" aluminum driven pulley is much lighter than the steel pulleys but is very sloppy on the input shaft with no way to tighten it up. I like the idea of aluminum pulleys but have yet to find one that makes me happy.

I already got some new used gears in place. I just curious if there are different options for gears like the steel input gears verses the cast ones.
I usually just have problems with the input bearing or output bushing but my next mower build should have that solved. If I can get a key slot cut in the hardened input shaft.

A couple of friends of mine have also did the double gear and and key stock trick to there transmissions. It is hard to get my mower rolling smoothly when I got real tall gears in it plus it would be a bit fast for the pits. I usually have to start in second and shift up to race gear. This transmission had been going strong for at least 3 years until this happened. I run a 8" engine 5" transmission pulley like everyone else. I plan on adding a lot more power in the future so I want to make the trans as bullet proof as possible.

Driveline / 700 Gear Options

At my last race I busted 3rd gear into pieces and knocked some teeth off of second. I was running a pretty high gear (14/42).  Is there optional gears out there that are stronger for the peerless? If so what are there part numbers and how to tell them apart?

I don't know about the push pull thing but if you have the tie rod in front you don't have to notch the frame for clearance and if you hit something it will not bend the tie rod. That being said my next build I am going to try rear center steer with a bell crank for better ackerman.

At what rpm does the cheetah cam make its power compared to the other cams mentioned?

Coffee Shop / V-twin Tach Question
« on: September 29, 2015, 08:39:17 pm »
I have been using a TinyTach the last few years on my mower but would like something a little nicer but I don't need or want EGT or cylinder head temp. If I combine this http://www.amazon.com/Baron-Custom-Accessories-Tachometer-BA-7315-50/dp/B001KO17TS tach adapter with this http://www.amazon.com/Longacre-44402-Digital-Tachometer/dp/B005JVEBZU/ref=pd_rhf_dp_p_img_4?ie=UTF8&refRID=0H34GEVE4DGK6RKND4KN tach set for a four cylinder engine would it work? I have an Intek V-twin.
