Was George sick or was it sudden.  With all the "It's a wonderful day" posts, I really wonder.  I never spoke with him through this site but I read a lot of his posts and gained a ton of knowledge while I raced.

Briggs Flathead / Re: 18 hp oppy fresh rebuild issue

Did you check the ring cap before putting them on the pistons?  Did you put the pistons back in the same location with the rod facing the right direction?

It is a simple rebuild.  Bore it 0.010 over, new pistons and rings, new valve springs, carb kit, new plugs and coil.  A lot of times it can be as simple as plugs and coil. Maybe even the carb kit.

My redneck way was to put a 2"x4" under the left rear tire and adjust the front spindles until the tires are flat on the ground and straight up and down.  You will need to adjust the camber and the move the spacers on the spindles.

Driveline / Re: Peerless 700 Gear Ratios?
« on: October 06, 2015, 12:55:58 pm »
It is easy to figure out yourself.  Just put it in each gear and turn the input shaft counting each full revolution in order to make the output turn 1 revolution.  The 1:1 gear set will be the gear which you need to turn the input 3 time in order to make the output turn 1.

You can use Ultra Blue or Ultra Back Silicone.  Dab a very thin amount on 1 side only.  Once it has set, you can start the engine and spray carb cleaner around the seam to make sure it is sealed.  If the engine revs you have a leak.

Stock mowers are very unsafe for speeds over 5 mph.  Lowering the center of gravity is pointless if you can't stop or if the steering is bad.  I would suggest getting a go kart or building a mower to the safety specs within our rule book.

This may not be the right forum for you otherwise.

Kohler Engines / Re: Cent Clutch for Kohler 1 1/8" crank

If he is burning up belts on a stock engine then there must be other issues.  It may not have enough tension, cheap belt or poor alignment.  It has been a long time since I burned up a belt and I can abuse it a lot.

Who's mower is it Bob?

Driveline / Re: Ec 700 tranny leaking

Make sure the tranny is vented too.  It will leak once the oil gets splashed around and aerated and build pressure.

The collar that goes over the shift keys could be on backwards.  I have also had a part of the broken shift key or a broken tooth get caught in the slides for the shift keys or lodged in a gear.  I usually assemble the gears with the shift keys in the 5th gears so I know that everything lines up.

If you have a set of numbered and lettered drill bits you can figure out the area of the hole now.  Add 12% to that.  I'm sure it will only 1 maybe 2 sizes bigger.

Take ear plugs.  You will have the time of your life!  You will feel horsepower like you never have.  It will pound all the way through your body.  Hopefully you have pit passes too.  You can get up close and personal with almost all the drivers.

Here is a link to some pictures of my steering set up.  It works well.

Coffee Shop / Re: briggs model 40 wiring question
« on: September 22, 2014, 01:06:40 pm »
Make it real easy.  Connect a wire to the coil to ground it to kill the engine.  Connect the starter through a solenoid to the battery and you are done. The rest is useless.

For the 1/4 mile track you may even want a 16 tooth sprocket.  I would suggest getting gear sets for the tranny that would allow you to run all the tracks without having to switch the sprocket on the tranny.  You may find that with the right gears and sprocket in and on the tranny that you can run all 3 tracks by using 3rd, 4th or 5th gear.  I have done this with one of my mowers.
