Title: 2013 Midwest Super Cub FXS (CUBZILLA)
Post by: Burton for Certain on January 23, 2013, 06:35:33 pm
Not doing a build thread, but ill post some pics as I go. Engine will be a 44 cube kohler command single cylinder. The two carbs that will be tested are a tilly hr-191 and a custom billet 44mm tilly from tillitson racing in Ireland. Diamond racing short skirt gas ported pistons. One off valvetrain. Full roller motor. No stock parts in this motor. It will be a horizontal shaft because I hate belts. This motor will be 8 more cubes than the motor I ran nationally in CP last year.

Drew, is there enough meat left in the cylinder, opposite of the pushrod galley, to hold a gasket, and keep it from blowing out? looks mighty thin there, but the bore is HUGE! :woo:

Question is like all fxt engines, you can have all power in there but can your chassi handle it and i working on building my own kohler horizontal with small block. Cant wait to see yours. Are you running a crank trigger?
Title: Re: 2013 Midwest Super Cub FXS (CUBZILLA)
Post by: Burton for Certain on January 23, 2013, 08:47:16 pm
Yep. Been taken care of. Had to offset bore it cuz the valvetrain is the weak spot. Welded the fins in on the back side a bit and NiCom coated it. Stronger than factory. 4" piston. The trial and error on that has been done already.
Chassis will be fine. Been doing homework in another country. The only issue ill have is finding tires with enough lug on them for the tracks we run in the north. (grass, loose dirt, etc) will prolly have to run 18" turf masters sometimes.

That motor sounds very heavy.
Title: Re: 2013 Midwest Super Cub FXS (CUBZILLA)
Post by: Burton for Certain on January 23, 2013, 08:53:05 pm
It'll be about 10# heavier cuz of the crank. Doeant matter though. Need the weight.

I cant wait until next year. I think thats when i plann on having it done. I hope small block works good. What kinda chassi you running for this?

Drew was the tilly HD considered as a carb choice. It's much larger then the HR.

This started out as a HM-1, but we had them change some stuff on it.

Well it's gonna rock and roll. Prolly make at least 1.75 hp per cid. That's just my guess.

From the desk @ MWSC "Block for the FXS, Total of 44 cubic inches with a projected 80+ HP and 75 ft lbs of torque. Should be a handful to drive. Billet steel crank, billet rod, 1.8 Rockers, custom made by Comp Cams, 42mm custom made Tillotson carb, crank trigger ignition, billet aluminum flywheel, big Titanium Valves with copper seats and PAC racing valve springs. If anyone else wants an engine like this they are $4900.00 no core required."

Going to scale down a cast grill, make a mold, and it'll be aluminum.

It'll all be welded in when they figure out how big/where they want the valves. It'll all be flat. No pocket like there is in the pic.

Post by: cubcadet70 on February 05, 2013, 07:18:36 pm
Nice. I have 3 kohler command motors in the barn. One of these days it will be in a pulling tractor. So far how big of a valve were they able to install in the engine? So $4900? Not bad for a 80 HP engine. I'm guessing for a pulling application they will just change the cam.
Title: Re: 2013 Midwest Super Cub FXS (CUBZILLA)
Post by: Burton for Certain on February 05, 2013, 07:21:48 pm
Haven't decided on valve size. Cam and flywheel will be different. The small block singles can't make 80.
Title: Re: 2013 Midwest Super Cub FXS (CUBZILLA)
Post by: cubcadet70 on February 05, 2013, 07:39:34 pm
Well no. I know the small block singles can't make no 80hp. I was thinking about doing one for my local club in the 12 stock altered class with a full roller motor.

Nqs possibly will be adding these to the 30 cube class in the future. The flatheads will get nitro and the ohv 30 cubes will run alky.

That's what I'm waiting on to hear from NQS about these engines before I build mine.

looks awsome, but why a custom tillotson, when you could use a Keihin FCR 41mm or bore it to 43.5mm they are very cheap from ebay and much better alternative, usualy found on motocross and ATV in the 450cc range before they went to fuel injection, Or a Mikuni HSR 45-48mm they are made for a HD but harder to work with
Title: Re: 2013 Midwest Super Cub FXS (CUBZILLA)
Post by: Burton for Certain on February 07, 2013, 08:54:48 pm
Julian had called tillotson and had a conversation and that's just what he decided to go with.
Title: Re: 2013 Midwest Super Cub FXS (CUBZILLA)
Post by: Darkviper on February 07, 2013, 11:19:44 pm
Drew his choice made it alot easy to tune it i think. I run keihin and i think it is 28mm. Also i like it alot. It is off honda pilot and so far i have over 20 different main jets and i got to go lower in the summer. Then you have to change it again in fall and winter.
Title: Re: 2013 Midwest Super Cub FXS (CUBZILLA)
Post by: Gui961 on February 08, 2013, 07:08:10 pm
this is because you have a carburator made for a 2 stroke, they never work right on a 4 stroke, find a true 4 stroke carb and you will see how consistant they are , you dont need to change jet all the time.. on mine i put a 10+ jet size for the winter and thats all, been running 2 year without adjusment, when its tuned it will always work right

Keihin FCR is the most high tech 4stroke only carburator ever made, developed in the 90s for road race bike for the aftermarket before they went to oem fuel injection, it was later use as a OEM for the MX bike and ATV in the early 2000 and still used in some model, most now also went to fuel injection,

made in small body 32mm OEM Honda CRF150r
Big body, 37-41mm OEM MX bike 250cc and 450cc and ATV 450cc

Sorry for the off topic

Quote
FXS & FXT Class (Basic Rules )
14) Wheel/tires: though offsetting of axles is permitted , tire sizes will be of the same size per axle, example:
from left and right the same size for the front and left and right the same size on rear axles.

While I dont have an issue with it and was doing it also the above is Straight from the book. I dont understand the resoning for it FX is allowed stagger yet these are the pro classes and they are not. Oh well I dont make I just make changes to try and follow them. LOL

Al- the black one said Pavin Pro like (paving a street), the red one says Just Plain Nuts. Both were off former pulling tractors.

Jim- the hood is from a cub cadet 72/81/82/282/382/81. Most people recognize it from the spritit of '76 model that cub did in red white and blue.

It started life as a 18 hp kohler command single ohv. Still ohv. That's a custom built 44mm tilly from tillotson racing in Ireland. 44 cubes. Glad I'm runnin the 15" Hoosiers, no way I'd be able to hook up the 12".
Had to remake a flywheel since it has to have a starter on it. Made it just big enough for the stock steel ring gear to fit and dropped it down.  The nice thing for everyone else is that they have the programs saved, so if anyone wants parts they've already got them drawn up.

This is the bully turbo 1" clutch that has been modified by Midwest super cub for 1 1/8" cranks.

Ryan Kerr has been running this clutch for over 2 years with over 100 hp and over 60 ft/lbs of torque with no issues.

MSC can fit your bully 1" clutch to 1 1/8" for $145. So for under $550 you can have a 1 1/8" clutch.
