Driveline / Borg-Warner T-92????
« on: September 01, 2009, 02:40:11 am »
Has anyone ever tried one of these transmissions in a race mower? I found an old mower called a Bready. It has a Borg-Warner t-92 transmission in it. These transmissions also came in Power King  and Jim Dandy lawn tractors and get this they were used in those little Crosley cars and even some early fords. If they were used in some cars they would surely have to be able to upshift and downshift.

Driveline / Would these be legal?????
« on: August 18, 2009, 09:33:12 pm »
Saw these online and was just wandering if they would be legal. Has anyone ever tried these on a mower? Kinda pricey, but might make a mower corner better.

'RATCHET' HUBS  are designed to be run on the Right Rear of an oval track
kart with higher HP. Animal modifieds, 2 cycles, big outlaw engines. When the
driver backs off the throttle before entering the corner, the ratchet hub "un locks".
This allows the two rear wheels to rotate at different speeds. Since the right rear
tire has to go farther, it needs to move faster than the Left rear. That's why we ran
stagger in the first place. The use of the Ratchet Hub on the right rear corner will
greatly reduce your dependency on rear wheel stagger. The rear stagger will only
come into play now when you tune the chassis for corner exit speed. As the driver
gets back into the throttle, in or before the center of the corner, the ratchet hub
locks the rear tires together again for a posi-traction effect, giving full acceleration
capabilities to you high dollar engine.

Driveline / 8 HP exhaust
« on: July 05, 2009, 02:09:58 am »
I am about to build the exhaust on my Mini/AP machine. The engine did not come with the bolts. What size bolts are they and how long? I was also wandering what size pipe should i use? I have a pipe off a snapper would that work? Should i use a bigger diameter at the end of the pipe than i do at the front?

Driveline / AP/Mini Final Ratio?????
« on: May 27, 2009, 05:54:55 pm »
Ok I am finishing up a AP/Mini build. This is my first build. I have a 8hp briggs With a G-team cam and a ARC flywheel and a 700 Trans. I am running 13 x 6.50 tires all the way around. What I am wanting to know is what final ratio would be best? I am running a 6in engine pulley and a 4in trans pulley. I have both a 12 and 15 trans sproket and a 46 tooth axle sproket. I am trying to figure out if i need to order another axle sproket or if i can use what i got. Thanks in advance.

Driveline / AP/Mini Twist Clutch??????
« on: April 29, 2009, 11:20:57 pm »
OK. I am building a Mini. I have an EC twist clutch i would like to put on it, but i just cant seem to find enough room to fit it in. I have searched the build section and cant find many pics of an AP with a twist clutch. I have slid the engine as far forward as i can. I even turned it backwards. Anyone have any suggestions on how to get it in there? Anyone have any pics of their mini with a twist clutch? Mine is an old craftsman chassis. It is about the size of an huffy. 37 in wheelbase

Chassis / Chasis set up cheat sheet
« on: March 02, 2009, 08:19:45 pm »
I found this. I do not know if it will help anyone or not, but thought i would post it.

Loose on Entry (most always an over loaded RF or under loaded RR
Reduce air in RR
Dercease LF diameter
Harder RF
Less RF camber
Dercease + camber in LF
Add Cross
Decrease front %
Decrease rear stagger
Use softer rear tires

Loose on Exit (most always an underloaded RR. Can also be caused by an over loaded RR. The kart will
start good then get looser.)
Reduce air in RR or LR & RR
Softer rear tires
Decrease + LF camber if RR is over loaded
Add Cross
Decrease RR stagger
Raise rear of kart
Use softer LR

Push on Exit (most always an over loaded RR)
Increase rear air pressure
Increase rear stagger
Move LR out
Decrease cross
Increase front %
Use harder LR
Decrease – RF camber

Push on Entry (most always an under loaded RF)
Softer RF tire
Lower RF air
Narrow front track
Increase + LF camber
Increase LF diameter
Add cross
Move LR out
Decrease rear %
Increase rear stagger

Chassis / Wheel options
« on: January 25, 2009, 01:31:30 am »
Does anyone make a rear hub in a 4/ 100mm or 4/ 110mm? If not they should. There are so many more wheel options in those patterns. Beadlocks are less than half as much too.

Chassis / Mower Front end options and opinions
« on: January 20, 2009, 05:12:16 pm »
Ok everyone, I am building my first racing mower. I have an 80's MTD chasis. I am about to order a front end and would like to get some opinions.

First of all, who all builds front ends and sells them? I will try and keep this updated and these are listed in no particular order.
1. E.C.
2. G-Team
3. ACME
4. Ryker racing

Next i would like to get some opinions From the owners of some of these front ends. Who built yours, What do u like about it,  and what don't u like about it? This is not meant to flame either.

Next i would like to hear your opinions on being fully adjustable. After buying your fully adjustable frontends do u ever adjust them or do u get them, set them, and just leave them? Was it worth the extra money to get the fully adjustable one?

Briggs Flathead / What will i need to compete?
« on: January 19, 2009, 12:29:47 am »
Ok everyone, I am new to mower racing. I have never even been on a real racing mower yet. My goal for this year is to build me a Sp mower, get it out on the track, get in some seat time , and learn as much as possible. I have bought an older MTD mower with a 12 hp engine and have also picked up a peerless 700 trans. I intend to use the knowledge i have learned from this website and use all good parts to build a good chasis and driveline. This is gonna cost me somewhere between $1000 and $1500. I am figuring $2000 for everything minus the engine. After spending that $2000, i do not know if i will be able to afford another $2000 for a top of the line race engine and i really want to get out there and race this year. So my question is, what is the minimum i will have to spend on building my 12 hp engine that came with the MTD and what modifacations will i have to do to it to compete in the Sp class?
