Kohler Engines / command twin carb mods
« on: July 22, 2018, 06:39:44 pm »
Our club doesn't allow enlarging the venturi, but we can do most anything else we
want as long as no air enters after the venturi. not a carb expert but is there some things
I can do besides drilling out the jets to get these engines to run better? I'm running a horizontal engine by the way.

I need some for a puller, must use stock Briggs
pistons up to .030 over. Listed as no longer available
from Briggs. Funny you can still buy the block.

Kohler Engines / Magnum twin question
« on: August 25, 2014, 05:09:43 pm »
What's the difference between the 15,16,17 and 18 HP Magnums?
Mostly found in Cubs. I can't find much info on the lower hp engines.
Just wondering if they cut the throttle back like the 18 Commands,
or went further.

Tecumseh Engines / HH120 question

Neighbor has on of these, solid state ignition with the starter generator, hence no stator
No spark. any way to test the pieces to see which one is bad?  wiring to engine is ok.

Kohler Engines / CH25 timing advance
« on: February 07, 2012, 10:32:44 pm »
How much can I advance the timing before I run into trouble?  Stock ungoverned engine,
pump gas, going into a puller. I'm thinking 5deg or so, but more if I could.  No sam box.
We pull 100', so the engine doesn't have to stand it for long.

Kohler Engines / Magnum opposed twin performance
« on: September 18, 2011, 09:08:27 pm »
Anybody know how to get these things to run?  I got one in my Cub puller
and it feels like I took a step down from my 42 opposed Briggs. I've advanced the
timing with a #5 key and drilled the jets out some, but she just don't seem
to have it.  I find it strange that both valves are the same size, so I expect
this engine will not act quite like any other.

Kohler Engines / 16 hp Command question
« on: June 29, 2011, 12:17:32 am »
I saw a vertical today and wondered if you could make a horizontal out of it like you
can with an opposed Briggs.  Looks like on the outside the bosses are there for the
base, just not drilled.  I'm sure you'd have to change the oil pickup setup and maybe
some internal drain holes, but that's not major to me.

Briggs Flathead / 42a707 vs 422707
« on: April 30, 2011, 03:15:19 pm »
What's the difference between these 2 engines?  I have one available and would like to
turn it into a horizontal shaft for my pullers.  Just wondering about parts interchangability
It's a low hour engine in real nice shape, would work good for me.

Driveline / Wheel Horse trans
« on: August 15, 2010, 09:00:42 pm »
I have a 1969 Commando V8 that I'm pulling with, looking for someplace to get transmission parts
or a complete unit as most parts are no longer available.  The Toro website lists the trans as a 5066.
I think it's a Peerless, but not sure. The input shaft is on top and the shift lever goes in the front.
One of the other guys in our club had one but said he blew it up after 2 events. I have 3 on it and so
far so good.  Just getting the tractor to work so I'd like to try to keep her going.  Oh, by the way,
it's a 3 speed cast iron unit, 1st is very low.  No hi-lo range.  It is a transaxle unit, the axle shafts
are similar to a direct drive Cub, only smaller.

Garden Tractor Pulling / Briggs Opposed twins questions
« on: August 09, 2010, 07:15:34 pm »
1.  40 to 42- just change crank and rods?
2.  best head to use, our rules don't allow any mods to head, so it will have to be stock
3.  add spacer to carb or not-doesn't have one on my horizontal but my vertical does, and
     both are original
4.  I heard the ignition timing retards as RPM goes up, true or false, and if true any way to
prevent this. Can't run advanced timing key.
5.  best stock pistons to use, I've seen a couple different part #s
6.  best exhaust system design- I'm going to run a stock lift reground cam, but I believe
a straight pipe is not the best choice unless the valve timing events are setup specifically
    for it
Tractor will be used for pulling, ungoverned.  Guys are telling me these engines won't be
competetive in the class I'm pulling this in.  I'm just stupid enough to pick up that gauntlet.
I put this in the Flathead section as it had more recent activity, but pulling ain't racing.
