Driveline / 700 problems

I have a peerless 700 that I took apart and cleaned up and race prepped and I took a test drive today, and it wants to jump out of gear all of the time. Doesn't matter what gear. The only thing that I can think of that I might have got wrong putting it together is the shift collar! The one that moves the shift keys. Can anyone tell me which way it goes on the shaft. The recess that the shift fork goes into is offset to one side. Which side goes toward the gears? Any other thoughts as to what would make it jump out of gear?

Briggs Flathead / oil capacities

Does anyone know or could tell me what the correct oil capacity for a 16 hp opposed twin. 402707 The reason I ask is that all of the charts that I have seen say 48 oz. but 32 oz. brings mine up to the full mark on the dip stick!

Chassis / Battery location

I am about finished with my build for 07 and I am having trouble finding a place for the battery. I really only have two choices, under the dash, which puts it under the fuel tank, or above the rear axle which will put it right next to the drive sprocket. Neither of these places seem to safe to me, so I thought I would ask some of you that have some more experience than I do. Any input would be appreciated

Briggs Flathead / Compairing 25's and 28's

I am looking for an older 28 and am wondering if anyone knows if there is a way to tell the difference externally, from a 25" motor and a 28" motor. The motors I have to look at don't have the covers with the numbers on them.

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / 14 Hp. OHV

I have a 14 hp ohv model 287707 type 0211 01.  It appears that this is almost the same motor as the 12 hp flat head, only with ohv. Is this what it is. Also wondering what the potential is for it, or should I stick with the old 12 flatty. Any info on this would be appreciated Thanks.

I have a peerless model 206 and it has a spot in the case for axle bearings, but doesn't have bearings. I would like to add them and would like to know if anyone could tell me what the bearing #,s are. any help would be appreciated.[/color]

I have a chance to pick up a wtpxs 4902 aa 17.5 motor CHEEP! and am wondering what the potential for this motor is? Will it make a good race motor, or should I leave it alone? I've always run briggs and wonder how it would compare

Briggs Flathead / !2 hp mod. 28 carb ?

I'm going to build a model 28 briggs for the 07' season. It will have a billet rod and piston with valve work and port work, and I am wondering what to use for a carb. Our track rules don't require us to use the original carb. so I am wondering if anyone has suggestions of other carbs to use that would be readily adaptable to this motor? Or should I use the stocker and have it upgraded? I think that EC. and G team both do upgrades. Any suggestions would be considered.

Does anyone use a mechanical caliper set up for the disc brake on a live axle mower? I know the hyd. set up would be better, but much more expensive.

Would you get more bang for your buck with a single 20 hp ohv or a v twin. I dont plan on to many after market items.

When building a Briggs OHV is it necessary (or best ) to change the aluminum push rods to steel ones? Iv'e heard that the alum. ones tend to collapse.
