Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Re: Grass Cutter Issue... with VIDEO!
« on: August 12, 2012, 07:32:41 am »
Sounds like an ignition problem.Loosing fire to one cylinder.Try pulling one plug wire off one cylinder at a time when it is acting up.If it dies immediantly there is a  problem with the other cylinder firing. If it continues to run try same thing on other cylinder. Good Luck

I put a oneway valve in my exhaust near the end at a 45 degree angle and connect a hose too it and the fitting on valve cover. It is done in drag racing cars.It lowers crankcase pressure and frees up horsepower.Cures small leaks also.Gary

Rooster,I made one for my ohv out of a 2"x4" piece of 3/8" aluminum. Will have to cut a 45 degree angle on lower left corner to clear block. So far no leaks. For this year i have tapped plate and put a barbed 90 degree fitting in so i can try vacuum balancing.Gary

The reason i asked was that our rules allow fuel injection .With having experience with it in drag racing cars.I know how much better over a carb that the throttle response is.Just looking for more performance. Thanks guys

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Dowel pins
« on: April 30, 2011, 06:51:48 pm »
Can someone tell me if the 28 briggs has dowel pins to locate the head?I tore my motor apart over one year ago and now i am finally building it and don't remember any dowel pins. I see that there are two holes where it looks like dowel pins should be.Gary

I am running a 28 ci flathead against 28-33 ohv briggs. The problem i have is that they pull me out of the corners. My question is will the arc flywheel help with this problem?I currently run a cast iron motor pulley.Would switching to an ec aluminum pulley help too?I also am running 16" rear tires.Should i switch to 13" rears?I have a 28 ohv that i could build but was looking for some srort term help. Thanks in advance for any help .Gary

Martin 07, Huffy is right on how to tell what the problem is. I have a head that has been cut .080" you can borrow if you need it . You will have to put your springs and valves in it. All i have is stock parts. Gary

The wide part of the key goes in flywheel and crankshaft.I just pui one in mine for the first time and had to reset carb low and high speed after i got it back together and running,Gary

I changed the ground to the motor and made a big difference.Thank you TJ for the tip. Thanks to steve for the carb settings. They were very close.Engine starts if i turn it back from compression stroke.I can live with it like this and will upgrade to billet flywheel and heavy duty starter as soon as mower funds get replenished. Thanks again to everyone for there help. Gary
