Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Re: model and code help please 14.5 briggs ohv
« on: February 11, 2014, 09:26:14 am »
I already have the arc rod. going to have to go 20 over for this rebuild so im trying to locate the necessary piston and rings.as far as the avs goes, will this piston work with either date code? I guess the date code is just confusing me on what the difference is in the parts

the wrist pin #s are different depending on the piston but not sure about the rod.ill have to check that. that was my biggest concern was making sure my rod would work.
went back and checked and it looks as though the rods are different also :bash: short of ordering both pistons and hoping they take returns I have no clue.

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / model and code help please 14.5 briggs ohv

so I have been searching on here and cant seem to locate the help I need. I have a 14.5 briggs ohv, almost positive this isnt the original cover and when I am looking up new pistons and rings I am finding the code determines wich piston (choice between 2) I need. can anyone tell me the difference in the two? I am going to bore the cylinder so I am curious how much this "code" affects me. any help will be appreciated. I have numbers stamped on the piston but was told by the local rep they were of no use. also no other shrouds are present on the motor and it does not have the original valve cover.thanks guys

THE EASIEST WAY IS TO WELD THE SPIDER GEARS TOGETHER :doh:BUT I BOUGHT ONE LOCKED FROM A GUY AND HE USED SHIMS IN THE SPIDER GEARS AND INSTEAD OF WELDING THEM TOGETHER THE SHIMS MADE THE GEARS SO TIGHT THAT IT ACTS AS IF IT WERE LOCKED.I WASNT SURE IF THIS WOULD WORK BUT IVE RACED IT IN A MODIFIED V-TWIN FOR A SEASON AND HAVE HAD NO ISSUES SO THAT MIGHT BE SOMETHING NEW TO TRY. :woo:

WE HAD OR HAVE A FELLOW RACER THAT RUNS THE TSC TURF MASTER LOOK A LIKES ON HIS MOWER AND HE HAS THE REAR RIMS WITH BEAD LOCKS.HE HAS BLOWN THE SIDEWALL OUT OF THE TIRES WITH LOW AIR PRESSURE OR HIGH.FROM WHAT I HAVE SEEN HE'S PAID MORE FOR THE  CHEAP-O'S THAN A GOOD SET OF TIRES. >:D

I HAVE FOUND THAT PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT VERY FAMILIAR WITH A DIRTBIKE OR FOUR WHEELER HAVE MORE TROUBLE IN A PANIC SITUATION TO REMEMBER TO LET OFF THE GAS BECAUSE YOU AUTOMATICALLY GRIP THE WHEEL HARDER TO PREPARE FOR IMPACT.IM NOT SAYING THIS IS ALWAYS THE CASE,JUST WHAT I HAVE GATHERED BY WATCHING OTHER DRIVERS.I HAVE GROWN UP ON FOUR WHEELERS AND I STILL FIND THE LEFT BRAKE AND RIGHT GAS SETUP TO BE EASIER FOR ME TO CONTROL.IN THE END THATS WHAT IT BOILS DOWN TO WHAT IS GOING TO BE EASIEST FOR YOU TO CONTROL.

IF YOU HAVE THE AXLES LOCKED ALREADY YOU DONT NEED TO DO ANYTHING ELSE TO THE TRANSAXLE TO FLIP IT.I RUN A BREATHER TUBE OUT OF THE BOTTOM OF MINE(ACTUALLY THE TOP ONCE YOU FLIP IT) IT SERVES AS A VENT.YOU ARE CORRECT YOUR LEFT BECOMES THE RIGHT.THERE ARE KITS TO CHANGE GASKETS AND SEALS TO PREVENT THE TRANSAXLE FROM LEAKING.IM NOT SURE WHERE THEY SELL THE KITS AT AS I HAVE ONLY HEARD OF THEM I HAVE NOT MADE ANY CHANGES TO MINE AND I RUN AN 820 AND I RUN HALF LIQUID AND HALF GREASE TO HELP PREVENT SO MUCH FLUID LEAKING FROM THE INPUT SHAFT.HOPE THIS HELPS
