We vent both valve covers on our 49 and have had no problems. Geoege, i've never tried the total seal rings but understand they do a good job. Where to you get them? Thanks

Me too Lester. I did get it to work but it took some work. I just got a 49 block and cured the problem. Also got after market pistons and all is cool.

Buy a 49 block and it works great. Worst thing that can happen is a 100K fine and 6 weeks off.

Turning black is a sign of running rich. High side jets too big.

I guess I need to recall the 15 carbs I have ruined that are running in NC and SC

I am running a Nikki carb on my 49 but not sure what it's off of. (40 or 44) I have never actually seen
a 49 cube carb. I just open up the whole carb to the size of the shutters. I know this dosn't answer your
question, it's just what I do.

If you have to buy new pistons, Aires (not sure thats spelled right) makes a great flat top piston for the 49 cu. Took about 010 out of the bore for a good fit.

Hey guys, I could not attend but just talked to Joe Parsons and he is at the shoot out! So far the NC and SC guys are having a good day! Rex made the stetement that this was one of the best races he has attended. I hope so cause it was a 14 hour drive.

49 cube is different, bigger valves and chamber is different.
