Post Your Video / USLMRA Races at 2014 Charlotte AutoFair
« on: April 07, 2014, 10:14:27 pm »
Stopped by the track and watched the races for a while when I was at the AutoFair on Sunday. Most of the videos don't cover the entire race since I would typically quit recording if there was a caution. Or in the case of the BP race, I waited until the 2nd (or 3rd was it?) restart to start recording.

The classes should be labeled correctly, but please feel free to correct me if they aren't.

The thought of building a racing mower has been on my mind for a long time now, and after seeing the G/P Class, that may be the route I go in the future since it doesn't require spending the money to build an ungoverned motor that won't fragment itself. However, aside from some good 'ol boys out in the sticks who mess around on a track in the woods, there's no actual mower racing near me that I know of, anyway. We'll see where I end up in a few months since I'll be moving soon.

I ended up getting one from Tractor Supply for $7.50. Maybe a little more than getting it from a dealer that would have it in stock, but until I used the gas to get out to one it would have been the same. Maybe I'll have it running soon. However, it's on the back burner until the Monte Carlo is close to done.

I think I may just get an E.C. carb when the time comes as well. Supposedly, the G-Team carbs have a problem with leaking.

I'm thinkin I might go back for the 700, 800 and 2 other 600s (maybe the Briggs 8 horse there too). Its always nice to have several options, especially if I build any more. My uncle has a 1975 Jacobsen that he said I could have if I wanted it. But, it cuts pretty well, as he's been using it for just that for the last 34 years.

There's a guy about 1/2 mile from me who used to do the karting thing, but I think he's pretty much cleaned out of parts.

The only 'problem' I see with running a 700 is the cost of a solid axle setup. I've been looking at the complete axle kits and they get pretty pricey.

Also, here are the pictures of the mower since the transaxle has been removed.

...and the wiring mess that someone made. It'll all be torn out, though.

Here's the fitting that's on there now:

I know it's been a few days since I said I'd post it, but things got in the way of getting a decent picture of it.

Can Tractor Supply get one of those fittings with the plastic? All of the Briggs & Stratton dealers that carried a lot of those parts in stock around here have dried up. The closest now is 15-20 minutes, but it's better than none.

Deere111- That's a pretty sweet mower. Does the shifter for the 700 work in the factory slot in the body? I just picked up a 600 transaxle, but there's also a 700 tranny back at the mower junkyard.

The hood is definitely off of an MTD probably a White Outdoor Products, so not legal for USLMRA but ok for ARMA. I would try and find a hood that should be on that mower, I think it would look better than the one on there now.

Ok, I guess the indented "Outdoor Products" on the hood would make sense being White Outdoor Products. There's at least 1 Dynamark hood of about the same year out at the junkyard. The hood on there now just has a lot of unfilled space since it appears to have come off of a mower with an opposed twin.

Well, I got it out on Monday, but it turns out the transaxle isn't a Foote, but a small, weak-looking Peerless. Right now it's sitting behind the mower with the wheels on, and chances are I'll just get rid of it. I went for a drive yesterday and since I was out near the one mower junkyard, I decided to stop by and see what I could find. First tractor I looked at had a 600 in it, and right beside it was a rear engine mower with a Peerless 700 and Briggs model 19. Kept looking and managed to find another 600 and an 800 (which was missing an axle shaft). When I was walking back out (figuring I'd have to come back with tools) I saw a shifter sticking up from an aluminum case under some tires sitting on an MTD. At first I thought it was a 350 or a 400 tranny, but after I got the tires off, I found another 600. All the gears worked and $25 later it was mine. I checked on 3/4" drill rod at Fastenal, and I'll have to pick some up soon for a solid axle.

It happens.

Hopefully I'll get a chance this week to pull it out, but I'm sure something will come up.

A new G-Team carb is about $200 also. Your best shot would be to get an old one and send it out to G-Team or EC (dunno if EC will rebuild & rework a carb if ya send it in, though) to have the work done on it.

armstrong tire don't know the name thow came on latter model agways or mtd's  to dark to go check

I know what you're talking about; almost like a 'mud terrain' turf tire. If I get a chance I'll check the tire model on the MTD my brother is fixin up to cut with.

Wonderful... I have the feeling there's water in there due to the time the tractor spent sitting in the junkyard.

Rooster - I haven't checked the numbers on it, but between a listing on ebay and here (http://www.heymow.com/index.php?topic=697.0), I've identified it as a '4360'.

My dad has been running a dynamark chassis just like that in the sportsman - s/p class.  This will be his third year running it.  He ran the Peerless 900 transaxle in it with a jackshaft the first year and decided he didn't like it so he switched it over to a peerless 700 with a straight axle.  The frames are pretty lite and with a little bracing they can be made pretty strong.  I don't think we have any build pics, but if you want I can get some pics of it all togather.  All in all I think it would be a good mower to start out with.

If you have some pics of the completed mower, that would be great. One of the things I like about this tractor is that there's plenty of room to mount a 700 on top of the frame.

That will be legal I have the same mower and it came factory with that hood. I believe the mower was made be norma. Mine was built for JC Penney and has the same fenders as yours. My mower has a peerless 940 in it but I run it in the super stock class.

Mine was made by Murray in '94. I believe back when Dynamark started, they were made by AMF. I think there was another manufacturer in the middle, probably Noma (however its spelled, never heard of Norma).

At least the hood bolts up to factory mounts in the front. But, if you look at the picture of the dash, it is about 3/4" too wide on each side. The only words I can make out on the decal on the hood are "Outdoor Products" in about 1/2" tall lettering, since they were sunk into the decal, which is silver itself. I scratched some of the paint off, maybe I'll take the rest off. The whole body has surface rust, but I can either get another, or do a little body work.

Every mower in the USLMRA and ARMA started out completely stock, and took alot of work, lol.
Build it!!

Yeah, that's pretty much it. With the economy in a crap right now, a lot of people are selling their mowers, though. In the end, it's almost always cheaper to buy a completed vehicle than build one yourself. There's usually only a 10% return on parts costs when you go to sell a project. Found this out with my Monte Carlo. I haven't sold it, but for what I've put in that car, I could have had a couple really nice Montes. But, there's little satisfaction in doin that. No busted knuckles to be proud of, no stories of how you were able to pull off some repair or install, no experience gained (I'm almost an expert at installing G-body, F-body, and S-10 springs now; had to try every way to get there), none of that. I'll stick to doin it myself. :burnout:

Ok, you're probably talking about the same thing. I'll get a picture of it tomorrow for clarification.

Thanks!
