March 28th at Sweetberry Farm in Marble Falls, Texas.  Racing starts at 2:00.  All proceeds from the day go to the American cancer Society.  We lost Mike 6 years ago on March 9th, 2009 to colon cancer.  Mike was the owner of Acme Mowersports and supplied racers with a place to buy affordable parts and was the builder of Acme axles and sold them to racers all over the world.

Can I cut the plunger in the carb on an IMOW and still be legal?

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / valve springs
« on: July 20, 2006, 06:38:14 pm »
Hey George,
Got the valve springs and retainers today, but I only got one set.  Don't I need two sets for the Intek twin?  If so, hopefully you still have all my info at work and can ship me another set.

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Governor
« on: July 13, 2006, 06:30:57 pm »
I finally decided to get a cam for my 20hp Briggs Intek, so today I removed the engine from the mower, drained all the oil out and when I turned it upside down to take off the crankcase, I heard the unmistakable sound of small pieces of metal.  When I removed the crank cover, it didn't take long to figure out that the govenor came apart and sent pieces everywhere internally.  Doesn't look like it did any damage to any of the internal parts.  Feel like I dodged a bullet there.  The cam has a couple of marks where it hit but no cracks.  Will have Precision Cams look it over real good though before building it up.  This motor would run up to 5600 RPM's before running out of cam.  My question is, do I need to put that little gear from the governor that meshed into the cam back in for support for the cam or can it be left out?

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Floating valves
« on: March 07, 2006, 06:13:13 am »
I asked this question in another thread and got no response, so I thought why not start a new one?  I have a 20HP Intek that seems to be floating the valves at high RPM's since I installed a new billet flywheel.

How exactly do you do double springs? I have heard that you can use springs from an 8HP Briggs and put them inside the stock Inteck springs. Do you use intake with intake and exhaust with exhaust, or some other combination? Will the stock retainers work for this or do I need to get some other retainers? And what are the specs for gapping the valves on a 20 Hp Intek? Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Dennis Drake

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / spark plugs
« on: March 04, 2006, 09:01:17 pm »
Just installed my new billet flywheel on a 20hp Intek and when test running it, it acts like one of the plugs is firing intermitantly.  Runs smooth for several seconds and then rough for a while and the exhaust sound changes.  It has plugs in it that have the Briggs logo on them and I would like to put in some better ones.  What is a good plug to use in the Inteks?

Briggs Flathead / Vibration
« on: January 12, 2006, 06:53:23 pm »
I got my new billet flywheel, heavy duty starter, and brass counter weights from ARC today and installed them.  When I started the motor it seemed to have a shake to it that it never had before.  I took it on a test run down the street and back and when I got back the bottom oil seal had come completely out and was on top of the pulley and the  oil was dripping from the bottom of the engine.  Is this normal to have some vibration of the motor with the brass counter weights?  Could it have shook hard enough to cause the oil seal to come out, or maybe I just didn't get it installed correctly?  Any input would be appreciated.
