Title: Cam plus another question
Post by: Mowerstompin on September 08, 2013, 03:35:07 pm
Finally got the motor running good. Its a cv15 command single and was wondering as far as cam's ,whos grind would be the best for low and mid range power? Also, would I be better building up the 26ci cv15 command single I got or a 31ci briggs? This kohler stock seems to have ok power.

Any info regarding these questions would be great!

Thanks.
Cody

Midwest has a few good grinds to choose from. Hackman at Small engines of Seymour has a nasty 6000 rpm cam. But beware, once you start flirting with that rpm area and valve train pressures to handle it the stock cams will break.

And the balancer in the Kohler won't like high rpm either.

If I was too get a billet cam from isky or something what would I do about the balancer to support higher rpms?

THE BALANCER IS SALT. THROW IT AWAY AND HAVE IT ALL BALANCED.

You can't just remove the balancer like a Tecumseh. The balancer gear drives the oil pump. MSC makes a replacement shaft or someone with a lathe can make one using the factory gear and fabricating a shaft.
