i tested the starter and its good. when i turn the key with the cable hooked to the starter it clicks but it clicks repeatedly then when i disconnect it it clicks once

i fried my starter solenoid my mtd and im pretty sure its the stock one from the 70s. i put a new solenoid i had for our ford laying around and i fired it up and ran great. i went to fire it up the next day and im not getting any power to the starter side of it unless i disconnect the starter from the cable. any idea what it could be? ive checked everything i could think of

i figured it out a few days ago. my kill wire was grounded i rigged a switched to so i can kill it with a switch

my mower will turn over but will not fire up. i got a new spark plug but it still doesnt fire up or spark(i tried sparkin it and shockin myself with it). theres no wires running to the starter. any help?

take some rope and run it around the pullys like your belt would and cut it where the 2ends meet and measure it.

i got it from a buddy and i dont know it is.
it says its jc penny so im guessing its a mtd from the 70s
the only number i got are:
