Chassis / converting from 6 inch wheels to 8 inch wheels
« on: August 16, 2014, 10:09:33 pm »
How many of you have converted a mod X or supersportsman style chassis on small 6" wheels to the larger 8" wheels legal in uslmra? Trying to save money by converting an old chassis to bigger and better things.

Coffee Shop / 2014 Season
« on: January 23, 2014, 10:42:28 am »
How many of you are planning to run Nationally this year?  Just wanted to see how many of you are trying to attend National Races since the economy has taken a dump.  I will be racing with the USLMRA again this year and plan to attend 3 races possibly 1 or 2 more if my money holds out, I also plan to be at the US Finals (it depends on how well my season goes).  I really wish more racers from my area were racing Nationally it sure would help with gas, and lodging if we could ride together.  My closest national race as of now is just under 6 hours from the house one way.

Coffee Shop / 2014 Build
« on: November 15, 2013, 09:23:38 am »
Now that most organizations have finished racing for 2013 we have too much time on our hands!!!  What are your plans for next year?  What classes will you be preparing for?  As for myself, I have started on a new style FXS, different won't do this thing justice.  As of now it is just getting started and planned but it will be unique.  I may also build a new AP or ModX style small chassis, gotta keep improving.  But don't worry Rusty isn't going anywhere.

Other Engines / Kawasaki FV540C parts
« on: October 02, 2012, 08:19:54 am »
Does anyone make an overbore piston for these?

I have a number for the complete gasket set, does anyone have a cheaper place to get them?

This will be going on a GP/ModXR or a grass cutter if it doesn't perform.  I would really like to try one before the All American.

I need all the help I can get on this one.  Thanks

May also be interested in selling trading, depending on what you have.

Is anyone bouncing hard when using the Burris Treaded go kart tires?  Not the rain tires just the normal treaded tires.

Coffee Shop / Rules clarification
« on: February 02, 2012, 09:40:50 am »
Several issues have been on my mind as of late.  I have been hearing rumors of people running aftermarket cylinder heads and intakes/carbs (especially in the BP class) that never came on a lawnmower engine.  If this is so, to me this gets away from the nature of this sport.
First, am I correct to believe that all Major racing organizations have a stock exterior appearing rule, in classes such as CP/Mod-X, BP/Supersportsman?  I understand that some things are allowed, but cylinder heads?
Second, don't you have to use a carb that came from a lawn mower, and or that series of engine?  If so how are people using carbs from MUCH larger generators, and or power units and getting by with it at tech?
I am sorry if people feel that I am being overly anal about some of this, but I come from a drag racing background where rules were rules and everyone was expected to follow them, if you did not they would do their best to find out, and there would be a tear down if necessary.

Coffee Shop / 2012 Season Schedules
« on: November 22, 2011, 01:58:51 pm »
When will the major sanctioning bodies have their 2012 schedules ready?  As a few already know, my first child is due around late March and I need to be able to plan most of my season as soon as possible.

P.S. With the addition of a child, I also plan a few changes in the classes I plan to run in 2012.  BIG CHANGES in 2012!!!

USLMRA Races / Re: 2012 USLMRA Rule Book
« on: November 01, 2011, 01:55:32 pm »
As far as this wheel size issue goes, I just think the mower count would be better.  As far as speed, how about running smaller tracks?  On the long tracks you have to be stupid fast just to be competitive.  I would happily run a shorter track with more laps per race to give the fans something to watch, shorter does not equal more dangerous.
To me most of the racers do not run FX or AP because the chassis and engines that are best suited for those classes are few and far between, not because that is what size tire they want to run.  I hate to say this but a mid engine frame with a HOT 390 Honda, or a vertical engine with a ragb with hoosiers, burris, whatever tires weighing 250 lbs or less will probably beat the shot out of your typical Mod-X style mower with Turf Masters, a 700 and an OHV Briggs, Kohler, etc. weighing 300 lbs plus. These classes have been separated for these reasons.
I know that I did pretty good this year considering what I have and where I finished but I know I was no where near competitive with the likes of Penne, or Miller, I also know that for next year I will either have a different chassis to run in FX or I will be running a different chassis in CP.  But if I were allowed to run my 6 inch rims in CP it would keep me from having to buy the components to build a new chassis, this would save me roughly $2000.00 dollars.  This money would then allow me to go to races that were further away and help push our wonderful sport forward.
Please do not misunderstand this post to think that I am ranting.  I am simply trying to state my view in the clearest most precise, and understandable manner possible.  I think the rules we have are wonderful, but I would like to see a few changes to open the doors to more racers.
Sorry Rooster, I posted my previous and then your response popped up above mine.
Did I just get my own thread?

Just as the title sounds my OHV is cutting out at high rpm's.  I changed the plug, checked the carb, checked valves.  Basically everything except changing the coil, and head gasket.  It ran fine until 3/4ths of the way through the feature.  When it first happened it would not idle or rev to 6 plus.

Coffee Shop / Prayers needed for Local Racer
« on: May 28, 2011, 11:33:00 pm »
At tonight's local race a good friend and former automotive teacher was injured in an mower accident.  His name is Gary James and has been racing for several years (at least ten) at our local events.  I believe that Gary or Pop as we call him (he is 64 years old after all) broke his collar bone or at least popped it out of place.  He was alert and moving all appendages so hopefully this is as minor as it can be.  Thanks and God Bless.

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / THRUST WASHER?
« on: May 20, 2011, 12:43:09 pm »
I have been looking at a thrust washer I have and I know others have used them between the crank and the block.  Other than less drag, what are the advantages or disadvantages, also what do you have to do to install these (I assume remove material from the pan that equals the thickness of the thrust washer.)?

Driveline / Peerless 600 mods.
« on: April 28, 2011, 11:04:37 am »
I am throwing around the idea of building a new mower with a 600 transaxle in it to fit the rules that several small groups around here use.  Problem is I have read almost everything I can about the 600 but still didn't get very many straight answers.  I want to know what all I can do to the 600 in order to run a 1 inch or 1 1/4 inch axle in it.  I know people have done this in the past but I can't find it on here.  I know the 820 has 1 inch axles, I already built a mower with one of those, I would really like to try something different.  That is why I am looking at the 600.  If anyone can help I would appreciate it very much.  Thanks

Coffee Shop / Rocket Ron
« on: April 18, 2011, 11:52:58 am »
Just wondering has anyone heard from or talked to Ron (Ron's Rocket Parts) in the past few days?  I have been trying to reach him to talk about some parts and how great my mower has been running, but I can't reach him.  Any news would be greatly appreciated.
