Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Arc weights vs billet dogbone
« on: January 31, 2016, 01:14:25 am »
After much searching, and a little experience with both, I'm unsure of which option is really better at 5500 rpm and less.  Darn sure cheaper for the dogbone, plus less rotating mass.  Yet less reciprocating mass with the arc weights.  Seems both are"wasted energy" but at least the arc weights aren't losing energy converting rotational energy into linear motion.  Just trying to figure out which one is better for power.  Dollar gain isn't much of a measure, but I'd bet most think the arc weights are the better solution. What are your thoughts?

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Ave vs Briggs rod
« on: January 05, 2016, 10:34:53 pm »
Can anyone tell me the weight of a 31/33 avs arc rod vs the Briggs equivalent?  Basis of a rules argument. I'm trying to present reliability vs performance. Thanks in advance.

Tecumseh Engines / Briggs coil

Sans bracketry, will a Briggs coil fire right from a tech flywheel?

Coffee Shop / Digitron vs mychron.

For rpm recall, egt, cht, and speed, which is better/capable?  Have a mychron 4 now. Would like to track egt, speed, rpm per lap.

Coffee Shop / Mower storage
« on: October 16, 2015, 01:18:16 am »
I'm guessing like everyone, in the off weeks our mowers just sit on the tires.  Just for fun, I sat the rear on a saw horse along with the front. I put a pipe under the front bumper.  Long story short it started level, but after a few hours now the lf sets lower than rf.  I'll let you figure out the rest.  Food for thought I guess.

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Port reversal on ohv single
« on: August 04, 2015, 10:03:13 pm »
Wondering if anyone has played with a port reversal on an ohv like they do on flattys. Looks like there isn't much material there, but not running a long intake and one not bathed in hot oil....might be worth while on a lower rpm engine, say <5,000rpm?  Also would put the spark plug next to the exhaust valve....

Coffee Shop / You might be a mower racer if...

You have six mowers that run, yet only one is for mowing, and it sits outside.

Tecumseh Engines / Twin head on a single.

Just curious if a head from a tech twin will work on a ov490 single. Looks like the intake could be an issue, but workable.

Chassis / tire pressures.
« on: June 07, 2015, 02:59:52 am »
I'll admit I'm a rookie to this, but tonight was a track change between heat and feature. Had a rain so they blades and packed after the rain.  Looked like the track would come in real tacky(which it did) I went up 2 lbs in the fronts and six in the back.  Starting lf; 7-9, rf 9-11, lr 9-15, rr 13-19. Went from a rough greasy track to a slightly smoother tacky track. Problem I had was the rear was just right in the heat, but too tight in the feature. Also I didn't gain a push in the front, but it seemed the rear was too tight for the front. Now I'm a 235lb guy and know I help with traction control, but I'd thought my air change would have loosened the rear enough for a tacky track. I know there are allot of variables, but I was even having trouble with it tipping up on the exits.  Mind we run a banked track like stock cars.  Maybe I didn't go enough air, but thought I'd see what the pros from Dover had to say.

Tecumseh Engines / tec 7 carb #s
« on: May 13, 2015, 01:38:41 am »
Since the pros from Dover are stumped, anyone able to tell me if a 640337 carb is big, small, or middle sized throttle bore? Thanks in advance. Pretty sure it isn't the small one used on the twin,  but trying to find the answer.

Coffee Shop / Tecumseh vs walbro carb ?
« on: April 25, 2015, 10:48:16 pm »
In stock form, minus the choke shaft and butterfly, does the walbro or the plastic bowl Tec carb have more potential?  I'm needing a new carb and our rules aren't mfg specific.  Will be going on a 31" Briggs for now then on a 490ov Tec.

Chassis / Flaring fenders.
« on: April 16, 2015, 12:39:41 am »
What's the big trick to rolling and flaring fenders. I really don't like the look of just cutting out the fender for clearance, and don't want to start hacking into my fenders and welding on extensions. One must do what must be done, but just looking for some tricks and suggestions from those with experience.
