Post by: bighead9007 on April 25, 2017, 06:38:26 pm
Got a 20 HP Kohler , we've put 30 HP coils on and can't get it to crank , will try to but pops an spits back threw carb. Any ideas.

WHEN YOU SAY WONT CRANK DOES THAT MEAN IT WONT TURN OVER AT ALL? OR IS IT TURNING OVER AND JUST WONT FIRE?

I'm not a kohler guy but seems like you have gotten timing off somewhere.

Didn't some of their coils require some funky ignition module to function?
I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express once.

Sounds like its out of time, but there are other variables. I'm not here to tell you what to do, but is there a reason for using the 30hp coils rather than 20hp coils? Also there may be an inductance issue, as in the magnet on the flywheel does not create enough inductance to amplify the voltage high enough for the coil to use. Check the gap, use about .013" feeler or what have you to set distance from coil pickup to flywheel magnet.
