I used a front four piston caliper off of an Yamaha R1. Works great and they can be had relatively cheap on eBay and was compatible with my 7.25 disk from BMI

I agree with 90% of what you have posted. Balancing a single cylinder motor is a misnomer unless you are using an active balancing system. Balancing dynamically or statically you are balancing for a specific RPM. We as mower racers run our engines from 2000 to 7000 and sometimes 10,000 Rpm's every lap thus passing the unbalanced zone twice  a lap.

I have a kawi flathead that I balanced staticlly and at idle it is purs like a kitten at 7000 it's perfect at 1500 to 2000 it shakes like it going to come a part.

I welcome your comments as I'm very positive I don't know everything about balancing but have been a student of it for a long time

I have used a Wilwood caliper off of a Articat. with a MCP master cylinder and it works well. They have two large 1.75 dia pistons. The calipers can be had for $15 on ebay.
On my new FXS I used a front caliper from a Yamaha R1.  It's a progressive four piston unit.
These were obviously all on the back

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Re: Which Briggs to purchase

I would look for the biggest cid that you can run in that class. But in that Class it really doesn't matter as long as it's on ohv. I ran a a  29 cid Tecumseh and beat the 33 cid Briggs and the 33 kawi's and they  also beat me.

By the sound of the motor you could of gone up on the rear sprocket 2 teeth. It didn't sound like you were hitting the governor.

Nice smooth track.

Press fit for steel is .001 for every inch of diameter up to 6". Over that it's .0005 per inch of diameter.

No problems here Ed. I new exactly what you were doing. And agree with you. I have a Intek head on my bench right  now that in no way would pass tech. I did it because I could and wanted to try something different

What about externally vented carbs and plugged governor shaft holes? Those are visible.

Ok Ed strike line one that I wrote and go to line Two.

I new someone was going to bring those up. You can add after market air cleaner to that mix too.

It's all in the eyes of the tech man and what he or she will allow.
