Title: 22hp courage SINGLE CYLINDER
Post by: big jerm on July 17, 2011, 03:38:24 pm
ok i just saw a 22hp single courage online. with a twin cam.  the head design looked kinda cool.  but does anyone have any info on this motor the specs said it has 36 in displacement  that a pretty good jump over the 21 hp intek its only a 33 in.  just trying to find out some info on these motors all i can find is info on the twins..
and it has 8.5:1 compression

Intek v-twins are 40, 44, or 49 cubic inches.

Sorry, I just saw the single cyl!  Too hot here, my brain isn't working!!!

Plastic cam gears and mostly you find them blown up.

I got one that has a busted block from cutting grass.  Not much there, but some people like to be different!

If this is your first build I would stay with something simple and proven.

Flathead singles are great to start with.  Once built they will run a LONG time and not break.

If you get in to exotic stuff that no one runs you will be on your own making and developing parts.

I thought the courage had over head cams and that's not allowed in US or ARMA or has it changed ?

The Courage single is not an Over Head Cam.  It has two cams-one for the intake and one for the exhaust.  The crank, rod and piston look beefy and the head design shows promise but the cams and the balancer would need some serious work.

Have not seen the V twin Courage engines give much trouble but the singles are garbage.
I replaced four of these engines under warranty in their early days. It seems the crankcase covers were coming loose allowing the crankcase lower to flex and crack and puke oil everywhere.
Interesting engine though. You can completely dismantle it without unbolting it from the mower.
If you want a good engine get a Command.
