Are the 700's output shaft set up to run off of either side of the tranny?

Briggs Flathead / Valve gap
« on: December 29, 2010, 03:01:37 am »
So I'm getting my engine put back together and my valve gap is more than what my book says. The seats and the valves are in good shape (and both are VERY clean) but the gap is about .005 over on both intake and exhaust. Should I just lap the valves in or....?

Briggs Flathead / Briggs 19 Billet rod
« on: October 02, 2010, 05:09:09 pm »
I'm trying to put a billet connecting rod in my 8hp Briggs. If I use the one I found at ARC I have to get a after market piston also. Which is fine, but I was also told that I have to sleeve the cylinder in order to use that set-up. Is there anybody that makes a billet rod that uses the stock piston? Other options?

Racing Mower Builds / '69 Huffy Sheraton A/P

Just finished my A/P build. Hopefully I put the first pics on correctly. More to come.

This is how it ended up. Once I get the other pics in order I'll show the whole build.

The tear down...

The deck was cut in two and the expanded metal was added in the middle of each, then the angle iron was added so it could be attached to the frame.

The frame was beefed up by inserting rectangular tubing in the channel of the frame. Cutouts were made for the axle. The nuts are welded on so I never need two wrenches-just a lock washer under the bolt. An access panel was also made in the rear for the battery.

Here's the welded nut side...

A better shot of the battery access...

Angle iron welded to the engine plate so it can then be welded to the frame.

Here is the test fit of the deck halves. Also at this point I began making the frame for the hood

Oh yeah- and I added my EC front end and rear axle...
Now I put the hood and fenders on and had to add some weight to the front end. I melted 14lbs of tire weights and poured them in a form that was the same dimensions as my front end and bolted it on.

OK- so I put it all together to see if it worked like I wanted it to. It ran fantastic. So then I tore it all back down to get it powder coated.  I'll start posting the "re-assembly" pics of it after I had that done. It shows how I did things a little closer up.

Briggs Flathead / Valve stems
« on: June 05, 2010, 07:31:06 pm »
Just tore down my 8hp and am putting it back together. The Briggs book says to lube the the stems and guides with "LED PLATE" or part #93963 valve guide lubricant. Is that what I should use, or are there other options?

Briggs Flathead / #3 offset
« on: April 08, 2010, 07:55:12 pm »
I have an 8 horse Briggs, basically stock, with the exception of a Walbro carb, 7hp head and some porting on the intake. I put a #3 offset flywheel key in it and it felt like i couldn't get the RPM's up. I ended up putting the stock one back in and it performed better. Any ideas?
