Hey guys, i didnt think you could weld the loabs on the camshaft? nice!!!!!!
also, i have what i think is a 10.5 briggs flathead and when i fire it up it sounds like it is labouring down low,i think the carb is off a earlier motor so i think it is either flooding or starving for fuel down low    what do you guys think?    any help would be great :bash: :bash: :bash:

cheers     :bash: :bash: :bash:

I currently have mtd yardmansx2 and have changed the pulley size on the motor to run a slightly bigger pulley for the front belt, the vari-drive setup is not the best idea that they came up with ,but the one i have got going now is quite fast and is only set up to give people an idea what we can do here with crappy old rideon mowers.
I am trying to start racing here in darwin nt soon and the rear engine rover ranger mowers i have also are just set up with 6hp briggs and stratton go kart motors to also get people interested in it.

So far so good, the 14.5hp yardman hasnt burnt or thrown a belt yet so hopefully it will last until i finish my 22.5hp twin with peerless 700 trans on the spare mtd frame (as soon as i can get the other half to show me how to put photos on here i will) so as to help any one else in this crazy sport

Sorry if i rambled on ,but i am new to this whole forum thing but learning fast :bash: :bash: :bash:

Hey all, just wondering about a few points with the 700 trans,

if you are racing or just road testing racers, is it better to leave the trans in one gear or is it ok to shift up and down providing the torque from the motor is  off

and can you turn the trans upside down and still use it no worries (as in input shaft was on the bottom now on the top)

any info would be a great help cheers :D :D

also i am seeing how long the MTD Yardman rear diff centre will last now that i have welded the spider gears together to keep power to both wheels(my yardman seems to go very well now) so i will let you all know if it is good or not
                                                      cheers all :3gears: :woohoo:

That mower looks very similar to the two that i have, one is 6spd with13.5hp ohv and the other is a 7spd with a 14.5hp ohv.
They both have the speed selector stick(1-7) and also have a F-N-R stick between your legs
I also have a front engine and a rear engine rover rancher, the front engine one is now going to surrender its trans in the hope that it is suitable for what i need
the powerplant is yet to be decided but any setup tips would be greatly appreciated as i am possibly going with the MTD chassis

thanks all    :woo: 8) 8) 8) 8)

Briggs Flathead / Re: 16hp twin cylinder briggs flathead HELP
« on: September 19, 2008, 11:07:51 am »
Can anyone tell me how difficult it is to disable the internals on the govenor on the 14hp ohv and what is involved ( I dont want to rush in and pull the motor apart and stuff things up as the comp test and run test came back very promising)

Also can anyone tell me what trans to run in the rear of the MTD Yardman that is fairly robust and easy to find

any help very appreciated :woo: :woo: :woo: :bash:
Sorry all, one more question for now, I also have sitting in my back yard(apart from another MTD Yardman 6sp 13hp ohv with possible broken piston/conrod) a front engine Rover rancher mower powered by a 12hp flathead briggs with a 5spd trans that all works ok.
Would that be a better trans to use for racing????????? ( Im so new to this its not funny)
Thanks all

Briggs Flathead / 16hp twin cylinder briggs flathead HELP
« on: September 18, 2008, 10:23:11 am »
 Can anyone help?
I have sourced a complete and fairly good condition twin cyl 16hp briggs engine.

My problem lies as such, the engine has been designed from factory as a ride on mower engine, but they then have gone and "comercialised" the engine eg: the engine now sits upright( to be used with pumps or generators).
The main issue  i am worried about is the "sump" at the bottom of the block can i use this engine on a ride on mower without any dramas with starving the bottom end of the motor of oil.
The carb and exhaust are not an issue as i am changing them to aftermarket ones for racing.
If anyone can help with this it would be greatly apprieciated

p.s. I live in Darwin Northern Territory and mates and i are trying to have a go at lawn  mower racing <the engine will be transplanted onto a MTD yardman with a seven speed trans currently running 14hp OHV briggs in resonable order

cheers
