Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Built Briggs V Twin Fuel Octane?
« on: March 14, 2013, 09:32:04 am »
What fuel octane rating are you guys running in your built briggs engines. When I say built, I'm referring to being higher compression, cam, port work and all the other goodies. Before someone thinks I wanna run racing fuel, I'm not and simply don't have the compression but I think I may need a higher octane fuel. I'm currently running 87 octane fuel.My engine has a steady blue flame out the exhaust and it's not lean, it will make you tear at the eyes. If I lean it out any more than what it is now, the engine will stumble when revved. Timing is set at 30 degrees. Up in the air just debating on trying some 93 octane. I've always ran 87 with no problems and engine is running fine, I just don't like the steady blue flame. My header also started turning cherry red and CHT was at 358 degrees. Any suggestions?

Just thought I would save someone some time searching for a prefilter for the new EC Distributing X2 air filter. The X2 filter is shorter in height than the X1 filter. A prefilter from a stock vanguard vtwin round filter fit these perfectly. Also a prefilter from the round filters on the kohler command engines fit them perfectly. If you do need one for the X1 taller filter, you could just use 2 of the prefilters on it instead of one.

Chassis / Brake Fluid for MCP Brakes.
« on: January 29, 2013, 08:59:30 pm »
I bought a new MCP brake setup and the only thing missing was the brake fluid. I know DOT 5 fluid is required but I noticed in the parts store today there is a DOT 5.1 for antilock brakes. It's a non silicone brake fluid. Would it damage the brake system if they were mixed or if I wanted to use the 5.1 by itself?

Driveline / RLV Extreme #35 Chain?
« on: January 09, 2013, 10:53:20 am »
The RLV Extreme Chain, has anyone used this with any luck? I know I've read on here about the EK Space Chain and it seems to be the preferred chain but I was curious if anyone has tried the RLV. Give me your opinions. I used the RLV in karting and never had any problems with it but this will be my first time using it on a mower engine. It's time for me to order some and trying to order the best.

I also forgot to mention, this will be behind a pretty well built V twin engine.

Tires / Rock Wheels
« on: December 18, 2012, 11:37:12 am »
Is anyone running Rock wheels from MotoSport.com that do not have the outer beadlock on them? I would like to know if they have a safety bead on them similar to the EC 8x8 wheels. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Tires / Racing Tire Question?
« on: December 12, 2012, 09:10:46 pm »
Does anyone know of any other brands of dirt racing tires for 8" or 10" diameter wheels other than Hoosier and American Racer? Those two seem to be the only companies that I can find but would like other input if I have over looked any other companies.

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Briggs HD starter
« on: October 31, 2012, 08:28:03 am »
I just got a hold of another HD Briggs starter. The number on the starter itself is 808514. The briggs number on the box is 808817. Anyone know the difference between this starter and the other HD briggs starter. The starter is going on a 35 cubic inch horizontal shaft engine. Just curious what the difference could be. I counted the teeth, it has 15 teeth on the drive gear.

Coffee Shop / uShip
« on: September 07, 2012, 10:21:48 am »
Have any of you ever used uShip to get something shipped? If so did you have any problems?

Needless to say I'm not having a good experience with them. Had a shipment booked to pick up a mower on Wednesday. Wednesday evening I was called and was told that he would have to wait until the next day to pick up the mower because a place where he had to pick up was closed. Said he would give me a call in the morning to let me know when he was on the way, waited all day long and no call. Going on today and no call as of yet. This mower is supposed to be delivered tomorrow. I'm not sure what to do but there is no excuse for not giving me a phone call.

I always heard nothing but good about uShip in the past. I must admit I haven't been satisfied. I'm not one to call anyone out here on a public forum but if you use uShip or plan to use it, PM me and I will tell you a shipper not to use. I'm not saying he or his company is bad but it's not good business practice for sure. I'm not sure what I need to do as of yet or whether I need to report a problem, just not sure how it works.

Post your Pics! / Resizing Pics On Your Computer.
« on: May 29, 2012, 09:52:21 am »
I have the time and noticed some folks don't use photobucket or another image host. They don't know how to resize pictures. I haven't seen any info on here about resizing them on your computer so thought I would share it here. This works great for resizing a pic that is saved on your computer that you want to use as your avatar.

Here it goes:

-If the pics are not on your computer already, download them from your camera or save the pics to your computer. Name them so they can be found and put them in a file to be found easily by you.

-Click on the pic that you want to resize. Next, right click the image.

-Once you have right clicked the image, choose the option RESIZE PICTURES.

-After clicking on Resize Pictures, you will then see the options of Small, Medium, and Large.  All of those are still too large to post on this site for an avatar. So lets move on to the option at the bottom of that pop up screen labeled Advanced.

-Once you click on Advanced, you will notice you have the same option as before only now you have the option of a custom size. I think on here to get the avatar sized correctly needs to be a 90 X 90.

-Click on Custom, you can then enter the dimensions that you want your pic to be resized to in the boxes. Remember, if you are looking to use the pic as your avatar, use 90 by 90 as your custom size.

-Once you have done this, click OK.

-Now go back to your album or folder, you will then see the pic that you just resized. It will have (CUSTOM) under the title of the pic. Now using the custom sized pic, you can now go to the avatar options and choose to upload a pic from your personal computer and it will upload the pic with no problems.

Hope this helps some of you out.
