Kohler Engines / Re: Ok all I know is thier heavy
« on: August 05, 2013, 08:35:54 pm »
Any... If its a courage throw it away... But the higher hp the bigger the bore... All the way to 30 hp is the same size block... Most parts interchange... 30 hp have closed chamberd heads... No real benefits there but all run well are string and make lots of hp pretty easy... Midwest has all the go fast parts you will ever need...

820s are real strong and real heavy. take a lot of power to turn. imo not the best for a stock class mower. 700s are light and take less power in my experience, plus cart axle and bearings roll real nice and true. I live 40 min north of Columbus and there are a few of us here that have been doing it for a few years now. if ya wanna know more or have any questions pm me on here

Any competent machine shop.. there are probably local machine shops in your town or nearby. Ask around check the phone book go by check the places out... Then decide who you want to do it... Its always good to know a good machine shop. As long as he doesn't have to make a new hub for the flywheel it should be fairly cheap but... Just hope you can figure out what to do with the ring gear...

Your on the wrong end of the crankshaft. The hub would need a different taper put in it as well as a new keyway. Could probably be done fairly cheaply but you would need to figure out coil mounts and stuff like that... Way cheaper to just put an Intel in it lol...

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Re: 44 intek wiring

Cut the end off the fuel solenoid in the bottom of the carb nip the wires off, there are black wires that go to the coils with diodes in the harness the diodes have to stay for it to shut off other wise you have to run 2 shutoff circuts...

need to find some flat tops for the 44 and have isky grind you a 40 cube cast cam and turn the ends down to fit the 44 block... flat tops arent a necessity but would be nice compression wise...

vertical shaft hondas are used on lots of smaller zero turns (riding mower) and are air cooled (legal) and can be sold as replacement engines for blown up inteks, vannies, kaws, kohlers, and indians for riding mowers... so whether is vertical or horizontal (seen some of those as repower kits in 300 and 400 series john deeres ie riding mowers) non liquid cooled v twins and you find or have a flywheel made for it yes they are legal... but with aftermarket parts availability being key factor whether anyone runs one or not is the biggest issue.

This is my first prepared chassis box frame mtd with an 820 with the 017 kit custom built brake hat for 10 inch rotor hand built front end. All the pictures of the build are on here still. The next picture is the same tractor just with different sheet metal. I actually wrecked it in the front yard and bent up the hood and side panels and i had another tractor given to me with a good hood and the fenders i bought new from a surplus place near me for 10 bucks. I sold the tractor to build my lt 155 deere that just sold

Garden Tractor Pulling / Re: building a kohler twin

Hate to say it but ohvs make far more torque and hp than any flathead ive seen... stock wise that is... even performance wise anything with ohvs makes more power and torque. But i agree with drew jmo after 20 years of pulling experiance...

That engine doesnt need bored they are torque mosters. Just as much as a kohler. I ran one in ss and first race with it came in third second race came in second. Fist time ever in that class on that tractor and it wasnt even mine. I can only imagine what it would do in mxr. The parts are so pricey because they came out around 30 years ago are discontinued and are still mowing alot of grass... literally the tractors fall apart around them that has to say something about those engines...

If it has been used alot for towing its more than likely not the original trans the e4od were not strong enough for gas trucks let alone diesels... the engines are about the most reliable out of any other ford diesel only thing you have to watch is the high pressure oil system and the injectors. Every now and then you have to replace the wiring harnesses that go to the injectors and the valve cover gaskets... other than the trans and the injector wiring harnesses most reliable trucks out there... ps the trans arent that bad as long as they are professionally rebuilt.
