Briggs Flathead / 18 hp horizontal oppossed

I scrounged up a big craftsman mower with a motor that I have never seen before. Its a 18 hp briggs opposssed but its horizontal shaft and has a pulley on the flywheel that drives the trannie and one on the other end that runs the blades.

Is the horizontal oppossed good for anything? anybody use or want one?

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Thoughts on 28 vs 31 non avs motors.

Whats your preference? Pro's Con's

I've heard it takes the 31's a hair longer peak out after droping rpm's in a turn.

Complete motor rebuild candidates include a 14 OHV 28, 16.5 OHV 31, and a 13 Flat 28.

Would like to run Mod X with the OHV's but I listed the flat just incase someone had a good thought about it.

Are people swapping 28 flat cranks in the 31 non avs motors or avs only?

Just picked up a 17 horse ohv tecumseh enduro. Any one running this motor? How about compared to a 31ci 17 horse briggs flat.

Chassis / clearance according to rules

trying to go as low as possible do the rules state that the lowest part of the frame can be 4" I have achieved this all except my clutch and brake rods run under my frame making their clearance like 3 1/2? Is it the lowest part of the mower or lowest part of the frame?

Driveline / 820 Question

Just picked up an 820

one shaft is an inch longer than the other. Whats up with that?

Right side is one inch longer than the other I started pondering the situation and thought perhaps this could work as an advantage for me; throwing the outside tire further away from the mower helping with reducing roll.

I have a 3/4" golf cart spindle set up with 4 on 4 hubs and a 1" axle on a peerless 820 (no hubs yet) what would be the best (cost effective) route (tire wheel spindle) to get 13's all the way around?

is there a setup that would allow me to keep the 4on4 hubs?

By the way its a mtd yard machine with a 13 hp brigs mod 28 flat or 14 OHV havent decided which way to go there either.
