Chassis / New FXS Build Questions
« on: July 09, 2014, 05:31:24 pm »
Frame Height:  What is the minimum?

Can anything be lower than the bottom of the frame?

If so, what?

What is the minimum height of those items.

Are 1"x2" box tube frames that have an EC type axle welded to the front and bearing plates welded on the rear, then covered with a stock mower frame legal?

Or does the front axle and the bearing plates need to be welded to the stock mower frame and then that frame can be strengthened with the box tubing?

Can frames be narrower than 15"?

Briggs Flathead / Oppy Carb Issue
« on: June 27, 2014, 07:46:59 pm »
Both of my opposed briggs mowers stutter when I come out of the corner.  Any time I hit wide open throttle they cut out and then take off.  IF I roll into it easy it seems ok.   They are the 3 bolt carbs.  I've cleaned them changed jets and float levels without much success.  They are externally vented which helped on the rough tracks.  Both engines are stock and ungoverned.

Driveline / 700-032 - All steel gears or Not?
« on: May 19, 2014, 02:59:27 pm »
Does the 700-032 have the steel input and bevel gears?  Jerb's list is a bit confusing if it does or does not.

Chassis / Rear axle Question for Prepared Class (CP)
« on: March 10, 2014, 08:46:30 pm »
Can a tech official please tell me if a quad axle is legal or not.  There is no suspension.  The center bearing housing mounts to the "original frame" as stated in the rule book.  It is a solid axle with hubs secured with a nut and cotter pin.  Here is a picture.

http://www.heymow.com/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=18911.0;attach=6166

If mounts go back to the top and side of the original frame as the rules state, can it be used?

I would like anyone else to give me their opinion.

Is it unsafe?

Does it give the mower enhanced performance?

Kohler Engines / cv20s questions
« on: March 01, 2014, 06:42:43 pm »
What are the weak links of these engines?  What kinds of modifications need to be done to this engine besides billet flywheel?  Can they be bored out 0.240 which is the next piston size? Does the carb need to be changed if that is done?

Honda and Clone Engines / Honda & Clone Cranks
« on: September 09, 2013, 06:29:46 pm »
Will the clone crank interchange with the honda crank?  Are vertical cranks the same as the horizontal cranks?

I need to know if I can put a horizontal clone 420 crank in my GXV340.

Are the rods the same?

Driveline / Final Drive for 700 with 23/27 gear set
« on: June 10, 2013, 12:49:21 am »
Can anyone tell me what the final drive ratio is on the 700 with the 23/27 gear set  I'm looking for a 3:1 ratio.  3 input shaft turns to 1 output shaft turn.  Right now I have 20/30 which is 4.5:1 and 30/20 which is 2:1.  What will the 23/27 give me???  What will the 25/25 give me?

I need to know which gear set will give me a 3:1 final and then where I can get them.
I just figured it out.  The input gear is 14 and the bevel gear is 42.  3:1 ratio.  I need the 25/25 set.  Does anyone know if EC has them and what the part numbers are?

Coffee Shop / Steel Billet Flywheels
« on: November 01, 2012, 09:26:34 pm »
I've read the rule book and it is inconsistent with billet flywheel.  Sometimes it only says billet and other times it says billet aluminum depending on class.  Does it matter?  Can I run a steel billet flywheel in my CP class?

Does anyone know if you can use the retainer and 2 piece keeper on the stock intake valve that did not come factory with it?  My exhaust valve has it but the intake only has the 1 piece key hole retainer.

Also I want to put the exhaust springs on the intake.  I noticed that they are shorter than the intake plus the intake has a "spacer/shim" on top of the spring.  Do I need to use that spacer?

Briggs Flathead / Need part number for Oppy rod. AVS/OHV rod?
« on: November 29, 2011, 12:37:36 am »
Does anyone know the part number for the AVS or OHV rod that is interchangable with 42 Oppy rod.  I remember reading somewhere that I can use a rod from an AVS or OHV engine.  I just can't find the thread or the part number.

Coffee Shop / carb float issue
« on: July 19, 2011, 12:30:34 pm »
I have a carb float issue on 2 engines.  I ran last weekend on a track that got a bad wash board affect as the racing progressed.  1 engine is a 18hp oppy twin with the 3 bolt fuel pump carb and the other is a 15.5hp ohv with a gravity fed walboro carb.  Both were having the same problem that when mowers began bouncing they would flood out.  I already have the float set low on the twin but the ohv does not have any adjustment. This is the first time I have had this problem but it also the roughest track I have run on.  Any suggestions or advise would be greatly appreciated.  We have our second race ever at our home town fair and I don't want to embarrass myself again.
